Redcar - 16:05: Back Melon

There's a strong possibility we could see heavy conditions at Redcar on Tuesday and for the 3yo 1m2f Maiden, it's quite the test for a young horse so early in their career, but with stamina likely to be needed I'll take a chance on the Olly Greenall & Josh Guerriero once-raced Melon.

First thing to note here, and a case of being on sire watch, is that he is a son of the German legend Adlerflug, and when there's soft and rain, keeping his offspring onside isn't a bad tactic.

His run on debut behind Tokyo Bay looks a fair piece of form for this level, as I fancied Tokyo Bay at the Dante meeting recently but the ground went against him, and he looked a strong stayer.

Melon raced over 1m4f for his first start at Ripon, and while beaten 14L by Tokyo Bay, it wasn't a performance devoid of ability as he wasn't cleanly away and had a lot of ground to make up. He did so, but he was forced to race wide, which is never the best idea at Ripon.

Dropping down to 1m2f today with conditions likely to be in favour, he looks worth chancing at a price of around 6/17.00 as I do believe Tokyo Bay looks a stayer off a good mark and Melon can keep the Adlerflug banner flying.

Lingfield - 19:40: Back Ehtiram

With Tuesday saturated by low-grade handicaps, I don't mind playing in races for Novice events or Maiden races, as they tend to be a lot more interesting, and who knows? Maybe could throw up something rated above 55.

Ehtiram must have been showing something positive at home as she was backed into favouritism for her debut at Kempton in November, but ran no sort of race at 11/43.75 and finished last of 13.

There were excuses, as she was slowly away and was also hampered. Not ideal for a first run and with that in mind, she was looked after to have a far more positive experience on her next start at Wolverhampton.

Again she missed the break but wasn't given a hard time at all.

She might have ability, and in two starts there is a hint she does possess some, and with her dam related to Baaeed and Hukum, her trainer will be familiar with the second name and she will appreciate the step up to 1m1f today.

With Lovable Rogue as the 5/42.25 favourite in the race, I am hoping we might get a little drift, and she's an interesting runner for the switch to turf.

Burrows hasn't had a stack of runners on the turf track at Lingfield, but he's 3-15 at 20% and 10 placed at a massive 66%.
