Warwick handicapper should stay for Olly Murphy
The Listed River Eden over 1m5f at Lingfield looks very open and trainer William Haggas has had plenty of success in this with Sea La Rosa, Dramatic Queen and Daphne all winners in recent seasons, and his Safety Catch is very much on the unexposed side to take the step up in class.
She's one of the 3yos here, ergo receives weight, and while rated 83 against superior rated fillies and mares, these sort of races can be a real mixed bag despite the size of the field.
Safety Catch raced just once as a 2yo without any joy, but that was over 7f, and she improved to finish second upped to 1m2f on her seasonal appearance, but she really hit her straps when put up to 1m4f to win at Pontefract.
The success in Yorkshire was far from a strong race, but it was the way she shaped in terms of stamina that was pleasing and she should improve again for the 1m5f today.
Her dam Tempus Fugit won this race for John Gosden 11 years ago and was a better horse on the All-Weather, and she looks tailor-made for this sort of test.
The draw out wide is far from positive, but it's interesting Haggas has eschewed the chance to exploit a good mark and jump straight into Listed company.
With 15 runners in the Warwick 2m5f Handicap Hurdle, we miss the four places, and with a couple of runners poorly treated from their marks, Benign Dictator makes today's double at 10/111.00.
They should go a pace here with Just Loose Change as the confirmed front-runner in the field and I whittled it down to Benign Dictator and Halligator as horses that should see out the trip.
The former was last seen in May at Worcester finishing third, but he looked hard work in the race as received reminders fairly early.
It could have been the ground and the sharp track as he had previously won at Uttoxeter over 3m to take his Maiden Hurdle.
He hit 60.059/1 in-running at Uttoxeter to highlight how he comes under pressure, but he does stay, and with form at 3m, he shouldn't have too many problems on the stamina front.
It's whether or not he's on a going day as he has worn cheek-pieces before and they are off this afternoon.
