Crisford trains the fav in Pomfret Stakes
Pontefract has thrown up the draw curveball recently, with a meeting not as focussed on low numbers with runners coming stand side, but the relatively small fields today hopefully mean it will not be too much of an issue.
In terms of interest, the opening Fillies' Maiden at 13:45 sees a Karl Burke runner set for debut and the trainer has sent out 118 2yo runners this term with 29 winners and 28 placed at a strike-rate of 25%. At Ponty, it's 18% win and 37% placed, and Estifada will not need to be a world beater to take this.
The two with ratings are 64 and 71, which is a poor figure to aim at, and Estifada has enough juvenile winners in her pedigree to make her of interest.
Her dam was a soft ground winner and from stall five, back her at around 3/14.00.
It's a close market for the 14:50, as Poker Face 9/43.25 and Al Mubhir 16/54.20 are the two at the top. The latter is a William Haggas runner who loves testing and heavy conditions.
He's unlikely to get that on Sunday, and Poker Face has some smart form this term as he seeks his first win of the season.
The 4yo has been in Group races twice this season and was well down the field in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot. He was sent off favourite for a Listed race at Sandown last time in the Gala Stakes, with tactics changed in the small field to race up with the pace rather than a hold up ride.
With him dropping down to 1m from 1m2f, a repeat of those tactics could pay off.
Flight Plan could be the big danger as he ran in the 2000 Guineas, and was backed from 11/26.50 into 9/25.50 this morning.
