Daily Racing Multiple: Wolverhampton duo appeal for 10/1 Saturday double

Alan has two bets tonight for the Wolverhampton card and both are prominent in the betting

Alan Dudman found another single winner with Heretic yesterday, who scored at a decent BSP and our multiple man is playing a 10/1 double on Saturday...

  • Heretic was a winner yesterday at a BSP of 12.5

  • Stott to maintain good Wolves stats this year

  • Alan Dudman's double on Saturday comes from Wolverhampton and pays 10/1 if both win

Hughes' eyecatcher can go one better

Back Saturnalia @ 3.259/4 in the 17:30 at Wolverhampton

Another decent priced single winner yesterday with Heretic, and he drifted out to a massive 12.5 to win pretty easily at Newcastle last night. Gilded Moon let the side down, but I suppose that'll teach me for banking on Ed Dunlop to provide a winner - he's a trainer who wouldn't figure in my top ten.

Even more galling was Hodd's Girl's win at Dundalk. Great to see Ado McGuinness with a pair of winners, but Hodd's Girl was in the column twice before yesterday's win, but she's another Ado special and so consistent. In the last 10 days of tipping for the column, there have been three winners at BSPs of 14.74, 12.75 and 13.75, while the places at BSP have been 14.54 (2nd), 7.93 (2nd), 7.63 (3rd), 7.9 (2nd), 5.43 (2nd), and 14.0 (3rd), so the knack of getting two on the same day is proving somewhat evasive.

Saturday is without one of my favourite races the Peter Marsh, so it's All-Weather action again and Wolverhampton selection Saturnalia is nothing fancy in price at 9/4 this morning, but he showed plenty on her debut to suggest he'll improve again for his second run this evening.

He raced at Lingfield on debut and was very green at the start and surrendered all chance of winning, but he did fare best of those coming from off the pace - splitting the first and third. The winner Sudden Ambush had the experience and benefit of three runs prior, and used the experience to make all. However, Saturnalia outran his massive odds that day and really flew home at Lingfield down the straight. His final furlong was nearly half a second quicker than the winner.

His rivals are Prospering, who has had three goes to win, and Spring Rose who carries a penalty.

Trainer Richard Hughes has a fair strike-rate at Wolverhampton at 14% win and 40% placed.

In-form Stott and Alafdhal to complete four-timer

Back Alafdhal 3.55/2 in the 18:30 at Wolverhampton

The second pick comes from Wolverhampton, and in truth, the card is fairly dreadful, but Alafdhal is in decent nick at the moment, and is the mount for leading winter AW rider Kevin Stott. It's hard seeing the in-form horse out of the frame for this.

He completed a hat-trick of wins recently with a convincing win at Chelmsford - smoothly going through the race to win by nearly 4L. He's been re-assessed and is up 12lb to 72, but visually he was impressive. Once again no times or sectionals were available from the Essex track.

The 5yo has raced over 7f, but the 6f suits him well. His four wins have all been at Chelmsford and he has acted at Wolverhampton with a placed effort here from his two starts.

He has enough pace to deal with a sharper track, and his run style will of being up there from five is a good combination.

Trainer Phil McEntee is 6-30 at 20% in the last month, and Stott is 4-11 at Wolves this year at 36%.
