Alan Dudman picks out a 6/1 Sportsbook double Monday's action at Taunton and Wolverhampton
Dare to take on Lady Adare? She should win
Back Lady Adare @ 3.55/2 in the 15:00 at Taunton
A one-two for the column on Sunday and a slightly unlucky second too with Serenity Rose being hampered and certainly put off at Southwell with an errant and drifting across the track winner. It was that sort of week, a 16/1 second given too much to do, and a first leg decent priced winner at Plumpton with En Coeur. However, Berkshire Rocco looked pretty good and returned a BSP 4.3100/30 winner as another drifter.
He'll be rocking up on Finals Day at Lingfield I'm sure and will be a big player.
Monday's action and first leg is a Harry Fry special hopefully with Lady Adare, and I like the fact she has drifted slightly in the betting this morning from 9/4 out to 5/2 with Sayadam as the 2/1 favourite. I think he's a beatable horse in this.
Lady Adare has been seen somewhat sparingly to date with her three starts over hurdles, but she has won them all so far and goes up in class to 0-130 at Taunton this afternoon with a big chance.
She rattled off back-to-back wins last winter and bolted up over CD last Feb by 16L. She was keen in that, and that is certainly one of her traits, but she's up only 5lb for that bloodless win, and with Lorcan Murtagh claiming 3lb today, it looks a canny piece of placing for a progressive horse off effectively just a 2lb higher mark.
Her jumping improved at Taunton compared to Newcastle with her previous victory. She also created a fine impression when scoring so readily on her Uttoxeter debut and looked very much a mare for some decent races. Murtagh rode her on that occasion and is back on board today to renew the partnership.
Fry is 11-74 at Taunton historically and he should be able to add to that figure with her today.
Strawbridge filly looks ready-made winner
Back Sparkling Spirit @ 2.26/5 in the 18:30 at Wolverhampton
Trainer Andrew Balding is in such good form of late, his filly Sparkling Spirit looks a very obvious pick for the 18:30 6f Novice at Wolverhampton later on today.
Balding is 7-13 at 54% in the last two weeks, and I have outlined that as the "Stat Of The Day" for Monday's Daily Racing News column.
The George Strawbridge-owned filly made her debut in November at Chelmsford and wore a hood to post in a race that had the look of a typical debut from a Balding runner. She was settled out the back and was still last turning for home at 2f. She darted off the rail to get a gap which wasn't really there, but by then, the first two had easily got first run.
Sparkling Spirit wasn't given a hard race at all and was sent off 22/1 that day. It's been a totally different tale for this evening and she's been very strong in the betting at 5/4.
She's by the sire of sires Invincible Spirit, who has a 14% win record and 35% placed at Wolverhampton, but it's those Balding stats that are so impressive at the moment. Indeed, Balding with tonight's jockey David Probert are 18% on the win around Dunstall Park.
It's basically a match on the betting and the double pays a little over 6/1.
