Darcy can lower the colours of the champ King Of The South

Back Jack Darcy @ 2.8815/8 in the 15:42 at Newcastle

Documenting was a single winner yesterday for the column at 7/2 and scored quite decisively at Wolverhampton to take the singles run to five individual win bets from the last eight days.

But the double has remained elusive in that period with the each-way multiple landed on Sunday the only one, so it has been rather close.

Tuesday at Newcastle sees plenty of juvenile races, which I don't mind, and also a 0-105 Handicap over 1m4f as the highlight by some distance. All the cash has been for Paul Cole's Jack Darcy this morning, and I have put him up as a bet on today's Daily Racing News column.

While King Of The South is a tremendous horse around Newcastle and won the race last year, Jack Darcy looked so impressive winning at Newbury earlier in the season, I can't let him go unbacked for this one.

He faced Special Envoy in that contest, but he brushed him aside easily in the closing stages and was always travelling better than him.

Special Envoy is rated 98 and subsequently won at Windsor, but he looked a potentially smart horse that day, and the clock backed up the performance too with a very impressive 10.87 1f at the mile marker. Stayers that can run sub 11 seconds in the closing stages always take me eye.

Jack Darcy was put into some good races afterwards - and finished fourth to New London in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, a recognised St Leger Trial. New London finished second in the Classic afterwards, and that looks the best piece of form on offer here, so I am not surprised to see the selection so strong in the betting.

The 1m4f will suit him, as will the track, as he looks a brute of a horse in size and an out-and-out galloper. His sire Gleneagles does get runners that act on the surface, as his placed record at Newcastle is 38%. The win rate is not high at 9%, but I don't have too many worries about him handling Tapeta.

Jack Darcy was last seen in a hot Listed race behind Ottoman Fleet at Newmarket and probably got bogged down in soft over an inadequate 1m2f distance. With the jockey's claim of 7lb too this afternoon, he looks a big player.

Ryan to end cold spell with a filly bred to be a juvenile

Back Silent Words @ 4.3100/30 in the 17:45 at Newcastle

The second selection is a newcomer and Silent Words will have to end a bit of a cold snap for trainer Kevin Ryan who is without a winner from his last 56 runners sent out.

The 2yo filly cost 92,000 and is by sire shuttle stallion Zoustar, a freshman sire making a real impact, although she'll have to buck a trend as Zoustar is 0-8 at Newcastle, but at least as had three placed.

He can inject speed into his runners, and this filly is bred to make an impact as a juvenile. Her two half-sisters both won at two, as did her mother who was a tough sort for David Evans.

Silent Words has a good draw in 11 - a must on the straight track so she'll have the rail to help and against rivals who have run to decent figures in the low 80s, they have had a few chances and she is receiving weight too.
