Casting looks a fine bet for Uttoxeter
Back Fine Casting @ 11/4 in the 15:20 at Uttoxeter
A winner and a second for Friday's Daily Racing Multiple column as No Cruise Yet ran a fine race at a BSP of 7.6 to finish second and Sami Bear won at 4.1 - although Sami Bear's win was a race too late for the multiple as he was the errant fellow that swerved out when leading to foil a 48/1 multiple.
Still he won yesterday and Chris Gordon's horses remain in excellent nick.
Saturday's first selection runs at Uttoxeter and my old friend Sayadam, who I think is an awkward customer is readily opposable and Fine Casting for Ben Pauling should justify his position as the 11/4 favourite.
He won by 11L last time and appreciated the softer conditions at Haydock and he bolted up in 0-135 company with the multiple winner Jungle Jack (rated 134 in behind). He's back in 0-130 company today, and while it doesn't always look as straightforward as that in terms of the drop in class, he will be hard to catch despite the rise in weights to 131 today and he'll need a personal best.
Fine Casting had looked progressive last season at Newbury with a 4L win in soft ground and considering he is still lightly raced with just eight starts hurdling, his trainer Ben Pauling should be thinking about some quality races now.
Pauling has a 6-27 record at Uttoxeter this season and Luca Morgan is 3-11 at the track too this term with a profit of +11.50.
Fine Casting was also bred by the excellent-named Hugh Hazzard.
Bowenspark can lift honours in a super Bumper
Back Bowenspark @ 4/1 in the 16:43 at Newbury
A quality-looking Bumper at Newbury to round off Betfair Super Saturday is the sort of race I like, and Bowenspark is just the sort of horse that attracts me as a well-bred long-term prospect, and he's against some decent rivals here with five unbeaten records on the line.
Bowenspark won on debut in November at Uttoxeter despite the steady pace being against him and possibly the good ground considering his size. He overcame his inexperience too to put a good field to the sword as the second, third and fourth have all won over hurdles since.
His 100% record was intact after his Warwick win last time, and that looked a good race with some top stables with representatives. The second for Sam Thomas had made his debut in Listed company and Bowenspark nabbed that one in the closing stages despite his greenness on display again.
The ground at Warwick looked very testing with Richard Patrick's white sleeves covered in mud that day on Bowenspark, but he travelled nicely down the far side and I loved the late surge in the end as it all clicked into place. Newbury's long straight should serve him well, and bear in mind he hit 36.035/1 in-running at Warwick last time.
The 5yo has a good staying pedigree just as you'd expect in the late Trevor Hemmings' silks and Patrick remains in the saddle with a strike of 5-20 in the last month at 25%.
The selection was holding up well in the betting this morning too considering the hot nature of the race, and he was from 9/2 into 4/1. His trainer Henry Daly also has Industrialist running in a bumper at Warwick, and while he was 40/1 this morning, he is a big unit and certainly a long term project of mine.
