Sen can do it for Thy column
Back Do It For Thy Sen @ 6.05/1 in the 12:35 at Southwell
Both selections ran well in second yesterday, and none more so than Island Run who was chinned at 1.011/100 in-running to finish in the silver medal position. There's close and there's close. Fostered Phil hit 1.768/11 to finish runner-up too, so hopefully some played each-way on the pair as both were fair prices. But for the P and L, it was win only.
Tuesday's Southwell opener could go to Kerry Lee's Do It For Thy Sen, and we don't need any 1.01s this week.
He's a fine Southwell horse with a 3-3 record here, and I have put him up as my headline selection for today's Daily Racing News column - which you can read by clicking here.
The 8yo has plenty of experience in his chasing career and he faces rivals just starting out over fences, and that experience could be crucial in what looks a winnable race.
Kerry Lee's course specialist won back-to-back CD races in the spring of 2021, and both were easily by 8L and 5L when the ground was good to soft. I don't think he'll mind the showers forecast today at all, and it might be less pressure on his jumping as he was still a bit patchy on that front with his last win over CD 182 days ago.
From a mark of 110, he's only 4lb higher and he certainly has been an improved horse with the cheekpieces on.
A Nicholls shortie means we can explore other angles with Fortune
Back Favour And Fortune @ 3.02/1 in the 13:35 at Southwell in the Without Favourite Market
It's probably foolish to take on a Paul Nicholls' bumper runner at the moment, as the Ditcheat team are 4-14 at 29% with their NH Flat horses this term and had a very good one score at the weekend.
However, as appealing as Divilskin is on pedigree, and he was a big money buy at Newmarket in the summer following a good-time win in a PTP, there is little exciting about the price at 8/11.
Alan King has Favour And Fortune, and the 4yo has a good old fashioned jumps' pedigree as the dam Fleur Rose is by Flemensfirth.
Indeed, Fleur Rose is the mother of Dreal Deal who has won plenty of races in Ireland and there's stamina too from the dam side which taps into the great Roselier line with Ballyrath - who ran over 3m6f.
We can get 2/1 on the Sportsbook in the Betting Without Favourite market, and that's certainly one way to play this as he shouldn't be wanting for staying ability. I wouldn't mind plenty of rain for him either to keep the trainer happy!
King is also at 29% with his bumper runners this term with 2-7.
