Alan is hoping Sedgefield can provide the winners on Thursday

Alan Dudman heads to one of his favourite tracks on Thursday as Sedgefield comes under the microscope and he is chasing a 10/1 double after a winner yesterday...

  • Rickety Gate an easy winner for yesterday's column as sole selection
  • Fiston Du Mou and Boomtime Banker fancied for Sedgefield success
  • Al Dudman is backing a 10/1 Sportsbook double on Thursday in the north east

King Of Sedgefield Hughes set for a good afternoon

Back Fiston Du Mou @ 3.55/2 in the 13:47 at Sedgefield

Rickety Gate continued the fine run of Nicky Richards yesterday and provided us with a winner - a selection that was incidentally very well backed from the early 5/2, but we were left with just a winning single as Rapid Raider was a non-runner. Changing ground at the moment is somewhat troublesome.

Sedgefield and Hexham come up today and tomorrow and the long distance 3m3f Handicap Chase on Thursday doesn't look the easiest to unpick. Baron De Midleton will be his losing his rank or title soon as he never wins, and doesn't look an obvious one for a long-distance battle. Byzantium Lad 4.57/2 should stay but he's hard to back with any confidence with his form figures.

It leaves me with Fiston Du Mou, who isn't a exactly a win machine himself but his victory at Perth in May was one that promised stamina a plenty, as he was given a lot to do but stayed on very strongly to score by 3L. He followed up with a placed effort at Hexham over 3m and shaped like a stamina horse. It's a tried (and sometimes) trusted method for me, as I like Hexham form translating for staying races.

The selection runs off a very low weight and Brian Hughes is booked - who is already 10 wins clear at the top of the Sedgefield leaderboard with 13 wins at 33%. His level stakes profit is in the red to indicate he rides a lot of fancied runners, but the 5/2 price is fair considering his rivals have plenty of holes. Especially the Baron.

DJ can spin us another winner with Banker

Back Boomtime Banker @ 3.55/2 in the 16:05 at Sedgefield

Mares races over fences or hurdles are never the deepest and while we have 12 runners (the most on the card) for the finale, it could be a straightforward task for the in-form DJ Jeffreys' runner Boomtime Banker.

She's really found her groove with two wins from her last two starts under Lily Pinchin, and the duo retain their partnership seeking the hat-trick.

The pace wasn't searching last time at Plumpton and they really started trapping into the straight off the final turn, but she was well positioned by Pinchin and produced a couple of very quick jumps at the final two hurdles and picked up strongly at the end to sprint away. I can see Sedgefield suiting her despite her slightly awkward head carriage.

Her win at Worcester in July was off 74 and a much improved effort from anything we had seen previously and she landed that with plenty in hand. She had shown nothing before handicapping, but connections paid 30k for her in 2019 and it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibilities she could be a 100 mare. This is a low grade stuff too.

Pinchin is 1-1 at Sedgefield this term too. The horse is in form and could be the only time a banker proves to be popular.
