Can Rickety Gate and Rapid Raider get their heads in front at Musselburgh on Wednesday?

It's a 20/1 Sportsbook double for Alan on Wednesday as he heads to Scotland in search of a winner or two...

  • Rabbitt again to take the plaudits
  • Stamina test can be right up Rapid Raider's alley

Rickety in receipt of weight to score for Rabbitt

Back Rickety Gate @ 3.55/2 in the 13:07 at Musselburgh

The combination of Nicky Richards and Connor Rabbitt at the moment is proving somewhat lucrative for followers of the pair, with Rabbitt on a 3-6 number at 50% in the last month. Richards, the old master is faring well too with a run of 9-22 at 41%.

Rickety Gate runs for the yard in the opening 3m Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle, and the 7yo looks worth chancing at the new staying trip.

He beat a fairly moderate bunch last time at Kelso over 2m5f, and was never really tested, neither was the jumping as six hurdles were omitted due to low sun, and he had nothing jump down the straight. However, he powered clear at the end and stayed on strongly. Times suggested the ground was on the quick side, and Musselburgh tends to have a sound racing surface.

Richards trained the selection's dam Hannah Jacques, and while limited, did stay well. With Rabbitt's 8lb claim, Rickety Gate is getting around two stone from Cyclop.

He has to prove he can back up Kelso as consistency has far been a strong point of his, but this isn't a particularly strong race and the 3m angle is worth exploring.

Howarth a good booking for Tea Garden

Back Rapid Raider @ 6.05/1 in the 15:37 at Musselburgh

A good old fashioned staying test over 3m7f always excites me and with only one previous winner at the distance, this could be survival of the fittest.

Rapid Raider was a horse from last term who created a good staying impression - winning four times over a variety of trips and a horse who took his racing really well.

A win at Musselburgh ticks the track form box, and he's not too bad at speedy circuits despite his stamina as he also scored at Bangor.

His victory in May at Kelso however was the one to draw real positives from in terms of the test today, as he looked an out-and-out thorough stayer winning over 3m4f on that occasion. Under pressure some way out, but ran on strongly. I like Kelso as a staying track as the straight is punishing.

With first-time cheekpieces, and another selection getting plenty of weight from his rivals, he has the minerals in terms of stamina to at least stay the trip.

One or two of the yard's runners might have been needing their runs, but he was out 41 days ago and Perth and could improve on that as he looked a bit rusty and made a bad error three from home.
