Countdown to Cheltenham
What is Non-Runner No Bet?
Non-Runner No Bet (NRNB) does exactly what it says on the tin, if your ante-post selection doesn't run in the race in which you've back it in, then it's a no bet.
What this means for you, the customer, is that you can place a bet right now on any of our extremely popular 2026 Cheltenham Festival ante-post markets safe in the knowledge that should your selection not run then you will get your full stake returned in cash.
But remember, this concession only applies to bets placed on the Betfair Sportsbook.
Our Non-Runner No Bet offer went live on Friday 13 February on all 2026 Cheltenham Festival races and is open to new and existing customers.
And in even better news, the Non-Runner No Bet concession doesn't only apply to singles, multiples count too. So if you have a treble on three horses using Betfair's NRMB markets, and one of your selections becomes a non runner, then we would simply void that part of the treble and your bet then becomes a double on your two remaining runners.
When is it best to use a Non-Runner No Bet market?
While horses can become ill or suffer an injury at any time resulting in them not running in an intended race, this is usually an accepted and very low risk to ante-post betting. So if your fancy only has one entry for Cheltenham, and all the signs are that it is very likely to run, then you're probaby better off backing in the traditional ante-post market if it's a bigger price than in the Non-Runner No Bet market.
If your horse is the same price in both markets then it's a no brainer, you back it in the NRNB market as you have that assurance of getting your money back should the horse not run.
But where the Non-Runner No Bet market really comes into force is when horses have more than one entry at Cheltenham, and you fancy it to win a particular race but you're worried it might run in a different race.
Take Fact To File for example, who is towards the top of the market for two of the Festival's biggest races, the Ryanair Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. As a previous winner of the race, you might fancy it more for the Ryanair, but given it won the Irish Gold Cup last time out over a longer trip, you might be worried that connections decide to go for the Gold Cup.
This would be a perfect reason to back Fact To File to win the Ryanair Chase using the Non-Runner No Bet market, knowing that should your worst fears come true and it instead runs in the Gold Cup, then you will get your money back in full as cash.
On the flip side if you were adamant that a horse with multiple entries is going for a specific race and did not want to use the NRMB promotion, you have the option of the traditional ante-post market on the Sportsbook or alternatively Betfair also has the Exchange markets.
Often the Exchange will give you better value bets, although with that comes the added risk that if your horse does not run in that specific race then there is no refund on your money.
