Horse Racing Tips: Rhys Williams strongly fancies ex-pointer on hurdling debut at Newcastle

Our resident tipster Rhys Williams has analysed Tuesday's racing and has a sole selection at Newcastle...

  • Good level of ability in points

  • Suitable trip for hurdling debut

  • From The Clouds is overpriced at Newcastle

Newcastle - 15:00 - Back From The Clouds

Florida Dreams being taken out of this race has made it considerably weaker and I think has left a very good betting opportunity.

Hazy Glen heads the market and he will love the testing conditions but his chance hasn't been missed at the current price. I liked Tigga Time's win on debut at Trebudannon but I'm not sure he wants this ground while Moon Over Mexico will handle the ground but I wasn't overly taken by his point runs.

I was far more taken by the point runs of From The Clouds who will have a big chance if able to repeat the level of ability that he showed when in the care of Donnchadh Doyle.

He was handy for a long way on his debut before dropping away quickly leaving the back straight and was pulled up. He caught the eye next time at Lingstown when held up and he made good headway on the final circuit to be a few lengths behind the leading group of three leaving the back straight but he couldn't make any further headway and finished a well beaten third.

From The Clouds was ridden with similar tactics on his first start of the following season and was starting to make headway when jumping into the back of a horse in front down the back straight. He made a mistake at the next but soon made up the ground and was only a length down at the last before the now 131-rated Lisnamult Lad quickened away from him on the run-in.

He was turned out the following week and ran well again behind Mylesfromwicklow, who controlled the pace and although From The Clouds closed to be in contention at the end of the back straight, he was left behind by the winner late on.

I thought From The Clouds ran respectably when third behind subsequent Grade 3 winner, Search For Glory, in a point bumper at Fairyhouse as he wouldn't be the type for a bumper and he ended his time with the Doyles with a good run behind another subsequent Grade 3 winner, What's Up Darling, in a point where the winner was once again more favourably positioned than him.

There had been plenty of interest in From The Clouds from potential buyers at various stages but he was eventually bought to join Keith Dalgleish after that run. He didn't make the track for him last season before he retired and has now switched to Lucinda Russell's care.

From The Clouds looked the type to improve with time and the ground will be no issue for him so if he's able to reproduce the level of ability he showed in points then he looks to have a good chance today with this distance looking ideal for him as he wasn't quite seeing out the trip over 3m in points.

There is a slight concern that he has a tongue tie on as the way he weakened on a few occasions suggested a possible wind issue and he might need the run after such an absence. He's also very likely to be a better chaser in the long term but I'm very hopeful he can be competitive in a race of this quality and any 11/26.50 or bigger appeals.
