Two selections at Taunton

Wellwillya can go well again

Mortens Leam interesting at a big price

Conditions will be testing at Taunton this afternoon and that should suit Wellwillya who is back in more suitable company today after racing in a novice hurdle last time.
With the first two home that day now rated 117 and 122 he was understandably no match for them but he ran respectably to finish fifth.
Prior to that, he had run well in a handicap hurdle at Exeter off a 4lb lower mark than he races off today when his jumping let him down a little in the closing stages after travelling well into contention early in the home straight.
There is a concern that the trainer hasn't had a winner this season but at least Wellwillya has shown some ability on all three runs since returning from a break and hopefully he can put up another decent run today. Any 7/18.00 or bigger appeals.
Mortens Leam is worth a small bet at a big price after shaping much better than the result suggests last time.
He's only been seen three times since winning at Kempton in April 2021. He was pulled up on the first two of those starts but managed to complete at Chepstow last time.
He was held up for the first circuit before making headway down the back straight for the final time. He travelled smoothly into contention at the first fence in the home straight and was still close up at three out before dropping away quickly.
The manner in which he travelled for a long way suggests that Mortens Leam still retains some ability and it could be that he will take another step forward from that run.
There is a concern that he might just be a weak finisher or not want this much of a test of stamina these days but I think he's a little overpriced and any 14/115.00 or bigger appeals.
