My Boy Teddy is overpriced at Musselburgh
My Boy Teddy has only beaten seven rivals in seven starts so far but I think he could be capable of better this afternoon on his third start for Iain Jardine.
On his first start for the yard at Newcastle, he was well backed from double figures into 7/2 but he looked to switch off far too much in the first time hood and was outpaced and looked like dropping right away but plugged on a bit late on.
The hood was taken off at Ayr four days ago and replaced with cheekpieces. He was heavily restrained early on to race in last and made some headway in the straight but could never get into contention and finished tenth.
I think the heavy ground that day was completely unsuitable for My Boy Teddy and the return to a quicker surface today will suit.
It was encouraging that he made some headway in the straight, showing that he at least has a bit of ability, and the removal of the cheekpieces and first time application of a tongue tie today suggests they're gradually learning more about what the horse needs with each run.
It may be that he needs a wind op or that this race will be a little too strong for him, but in a race where the majority of his rivals have shown their full hand, he might be capable of better than he's shown so far and any 16/117.00 or bigger appeals.
