Touch Tight is overpriced at Fontwell
There's little strength in depth in the opening maiden hurdle at Fontwell. All Authorized heads the market and he may have the most class in the field but he's starting to look a bit tripless. American Land is next in but he was very disappointing last time so there has to be a concern over how much ability he retains.
I'm taking on the front pair with Electric Jet. He was well beaten when coming down at the last on his latest start at Hereford but he had set a good pace until two out and frequently lost ground jumping out to the left that day so the return to a left-handed track today should help him.
He ran well on his rules debut prior to that at Sedgefield when ridden more patiently. They may take that option today or Electric Jet might have no pressure at all on the lead given the quality of this race so he won't need to go as quick to be able to make the running. He's also been off the track for 95 days since his last run so it might be that he had a problem that day which caused him to weaken so quickly late on.
It might be that he is just a bit weak off the bridle but in such a poor contest I think he should be closer to the front pair and any 11/26.50 or bigger appeals.
Touch Tight returns to racing under rules this afternoon having run quite well in defeat in three starts in points this season.
He's been ridden much handier than previously and he made most of the running on his seasonal debut at Horseheath when only caught late on by All The Ammunition.
It was a little disappointing how easily A Quick Risk left him behind next time out at Charing but it might be that he is a smart recruit to British pointing and Touch Tight was carrying a penalty that day.
Touch Tight once again finished second on his most recent start in a Conditions race at Brafield when Golan Fortune outjumped him at four out and Touch Tight could never quite get back to him.
When last seen under rules, Touch Tight had looked a non stayer over three miles when ridden patiently at Southwell so the drop back in trip and possibly a more positive ride, given the change of tactics in points, could be more suitable for him.
There is a slight concern that quite a few like to race handily in this and he could get into a battle up front and I'm not sure if Phil York will be able to do the weight having carried overweight on him in both runs at Southwell when carrying a similar weight. However, despite those concerns, he shouldn't be the outsider of the whole field. Any 14/115.00 or bigger appeals.
At a huge price, I can't let Silent Venture go unbacked in the bumper at Limerick. On his pointing debut at Tattersalls Farm, he jumped terribly early on and raced in last place. He made some headway on the final circuit and was in fourth towards the end of the back straight before fading and being pulled up.
The ground was atrocious that day and his jumping was clearly an issue so the test of three miles over fences looked clearly unsuitable for him. It wouldn't be a surprise if he was capable of much better than that and his trainer has had Thief Of The Night and Eire Street run well when switching from points to bumpers in recent times. Any 33/134.00 or bigger appeals.
