Phil Mickelson is an American professional golfer, currently competing on the PGA Tour, where he has won 42 events, including five major championships. The left-handed swinger has won three Masters titles (2004, 2006, 2010), a PGA Championship in 2005, and an Open Championship title in 2013, finishing runner up at the US Open a record six times.

Mickelson has also played a key role in the America Ryder Cup team, making nine appearances in the tournament, finishing on the winning team just twice. The American has also won eight Presidents Cups during his career, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2012.
After consistently performing well at major tournaments without a title, Mickelson won his first major championship title at the 2004 Masters, ending a run of three straight third place finishes to win the tournament with an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole. As well as shedding the tag of being the best player never to win a major, Mickelson's Masters triumph made him just the third golfer with a left-handed swing to win a major, joining New Zealander Sir Bob Charles and Canadian Mike Weir on the unique list.
2005 saw Mickelson add his second major title to his collection by winning the PGA Championship, beginning 2006 in winning form by lifting the trophy at the Masters for the second time in three years. A third Masters title in 2010 was followed by a first ever Open victory in 2013, leaving just the US Open as the only major Mickelson is yet to win, one of 15 golfers in the history of the sport to win at least three of the four professional majors.
Mickelson has spent over 700 weeks in the top-10 of the golf world rankings, reaching a career-high world ranking of second several times without ever managing to reach the number-one spot, usually finding his path blocked by long-time rival Tiger Woods.
Mickelson is nicknamed "Lefty" for his left-handed swing, but the American is otherwise right-handed in his everyday life. Known for an aggressive and often fearless style, coming from a powerful but often inaccurate swing, Mickelson has put together one of the Tour's most complete short games, including the famous "Phil flop" shot, in which a big swing with a high-lofted wedge against a tight lie lifts a ball high into the air for a short distance.
