As highlighted in the preview, the Wyndham Championship offers up the final opportunity to make it to the FedEx Cup playoffs that start next week in Memphis with the FedEx St Jude.

Only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup Standings are eligible to play next week so those outside the top 70 have extra motivation. My first Bubble Boy is Denny McCarthy who sits in 84^th place in the Standings.

Wyndham Championship bet#1 - Denny McCarthy @ 170.0169/1

Denny McCarthy is no stranger to Sedgefield Country Club and his respectable bank of course form stretching back to 2018 reads 36-22-9-15-MC-MC-33-11.

McCarthy hasn't missed a Wyndham Championship in eight years, and I suspect that's because Sedgefield fits his eye nicely.

He has a straight tee game and an often-red-hot putter, and he put those attributes to good use 12 months ago when he shot the lowest round of Sunday, a seven-under-par 63, to climb up into a tie for 11^th.

As highlighted in the preview, the three courses that appear to correlate best with Sedgefield Country Club are Keen Trace, Sawgrass and Waialae Country Club and McCarthy has form at all three.

He was 11^th at Keene Trace back in 2019, he's sat fifth and ninth at the halfway stage of a Players Championship at Sawgrass before finishing 14^th from off the pace there this year, and he was the halfway leader of the Sony Open at Waialae in January last year.

He's yet to get across the line on the PGA Tour but that's not a big negative given the strong record for maidens at this event and he's twice come close, losing in a playoff at the Memorial Tournament in 2023 and the Texas Open in 2024.

The 33-year-old missed the cut last week in the Rocket Classic but that wasn't entirely surprising given he contended strongly the week before, finishing third in the 3M Open behind the exiting young phenom, Jason Koivun.

Sitting at number 84 in the FedEx Cup Standings, McCarthy needs a solo fifth placed finish or better to progress to Memphis and if he can put last week's poor effort behind him, that's certainly possible around a track he clearly likes.

Wyndham Championship bet#2 - Jason Day @ 220.0219/1

At number 75 in the FedEx Cup Standings, the veteran Aussie, Jason Day, only needs to finish in a two-way tie for 12^th to get into the FedEx St Jude field next week, so it's not surprising that he's making only his third Sedgefield appearance this year.

Day missed the cut on his first visit way back in 2008 but he was woefully out of form at the time. He withdrew here in 2022 when sitting tied for 23^rd after the opening round so he doesn't have a glittering bank of course form but there's every reason to think this is somewhere that he could thrive.

As already mentioned, Sawgrass form holds up superbly at Sedgefield so the 2016 Players Champion may well take to the track at the third time of asking and he likes a Donald Ross layout too.

Although last week's venue, Detroit Golf Club, was a Donald Ross layout, we don't come across many of his designs on the PGA Tour so it's also worth highlighting that Day has four top 10s at four different Ross designs.

The 38-year-old finished ninth at Aronimink back in 2010, eight in the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill in 2013, fourth in the US Open at Pinehurst, and he won the now defunct Barclays at Plainfield in 2015.

That's not a bad return given he's only played events staged at a Ross layout 14 times and that includes his two poor efforts here.

It's now two years since Day won his 13^th PGA Tour title, at the AT&T Byron Nelson, and he's not in brilliant form either. But he came in under the radar when he finished sixth in the Houston Open and 12^th at the US Masters in the spring so that doesn't worry me too much at odds in excess of 200/1201.00.
