The Punter's Preview: 47/1 Hovland to bounce back

Steve Rawlings: After finishing 18^th from off the pace at the US Masters, Viktor Hovalnd has missed the cut in all three of the other majors in 2026 but there's been some great golf in-between.

The Norwegian finished third in the Canadian Open after missing the cut in the US PGA Championship and he won the Travelers Championship in a playoff over Scottie Scheffler after he missed the cut at the US Open.

That win in Connecticut was followed by a respectable 13^th placed finish in the Scottish Open, but we haven't seen him in action since his weekend off at Royal Birkdale.

Having twice impressed after a missed cut in a major, the 2024 FedEx St Jude runner-up looks worth chancing here at a big price.

His overall course form figures read an ordinary 59-36-20-13-2-32 so he doesn't have a sparkling bank of course form but he won back-to-back FedEx Cup Playoff events when he won the FedEx Cup in 2023 and the Betfair Exchange market appears to be overlooking him slightly given he's generally a 33/1 shot on the High Street.

Each-way Picks: Burns to thrive in the heat at 18/1

Dave Tindall: An event on Bermuda in the south is right in Sam Burns' wheelhouse, the man from Louisana showing just why with previous wins in Florida (twice), Texas (twice) and Mississippi. As you'd expect, he has some strong past course form at TPC Southwind.

Fuelled by laps of 64 in rounds two and four in 2021, Burns lost out in a three-way playoff on just his second start at the course while a Friday 63 helped him to fifth in 2024. There's also a 20th and 28th on his record.

I think the intense heat forcecast this week plays into his hands too. A couple of years ago he said he was completely used to it living in Louisiana.

Stats-wise, Burns ranks 2nd for Par 4 Scoring Average which is ideal for a par 70 and 3rd in SG: Putting. He was 1st Tee To Green at Royal Birkdale but his inability to come fully to terms with the greens was probably the difference between finishing third and getting his hands on the claret jug.

By contrast, Burns putts these surfaces beautifully and ranked 1st for SG: Putting on them last year and 2nd in both 2024 and 2021. He's also gained strokes on approach in all five visits.

First Round Leader Picks: In-form Kim can go low

Dave Tindall: We also made some FRL profits with Tom Kim after he co-led the Scottish Open last month, an event he went on to win.

Just four starts earlier, the Korean topped Thursday's leaderboard at the Charles Schwab Challenge and, similar to Cole, he added to those two FRLs with a strong opener (65) in last week's Wyndham Championship where he finished fifth.

Kim has looked rejuvenated this summer and I've also backed him in my outright preview.

At this event in 2023 he set off with a 64 to end the day in second and he fired that same six-under total in round two a year later.

Kim, who ranks 17th in the PGA Tour's Early Scoring Average table, tees it up at 08:20.

Course and current form stats

Current Form Pick: The world number one will play for the first time since he finished second at the 3M Open. A couple of weeks off, after again going close without winning, may have freshened up the American who was third here last year.

The Punter's Preview: Home hero chanced at 16/1

Steve Rawlings: Having been played over only 54 holes, and having only five editions to evaluate, it's debatable how much we can read into how the Great Northern Challenge has panned out here but for the record, none of the five winners were leading after the first round and only two of the five were in front after two rounds.

The inaugural winner, Peter Launer Baek, led by two with a round to go and the last winner, Martin Eriksson, was tied for the lead after 36 holes. The 2023 winner, Adam Andersson, sat fifth and two back after 36 holes but the other two winners sat second and just one of the lead with 18 to play.

Rasmus Hojgaard finished the Wyndham Championship respectfully enough on Sunday with a four-under-par 66 that saw him climb up into a tie for 49^th.

With the weather forecast suggesting conditions will worsen throughout the week, I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the new venue and seeking out some value in-running, but I was happy to chance Rasmus Hojgaard modestly given his clear liking for the event (see above).

The industry-wide best of 16/1 with the Sportsbook looks fair enough in a very weak field around a track that should suit him.

Form stats for this week's DP World Tour event

Current Form Pick: The Spaniard has endured some difficult weeks recently, including a 46th-place finish at The Open, but it is only a couple of months since he recorded consecutive wins at the KLM Open and the Italian Open. In this field, he's top for ranking points accumulated since March.
