The highlight of the German's career so far was winning the 2011 US PGA Championship, the final major of the season.

Kaymer was once ranked as the number one golfer in the world. He was also part of the European Ryder Cup team which was successful in America in 2012. His victory on the final day over Steve Stricker ensured Europe retained the trophy in Medinah.

After turning professional in 2005, the German played on the EPD Tour in the early stages of his career. He got his break to join the European Tour in 2007 when he made his debut in the Hong Kong Open.

In the 2008 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, Kaymer won his first tournament since picking up his tour card. Despite a fourth round score of 74, he won by four shots ahead of Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood.

Later that year, he doubled his career tally with success in the BMW International Open. This time he had to do so by a playoff success against Anders Hansen. The German birdied the first extra hole to overcome his Danish opponent.

Kaymer was able to break his maiden major tag when he secured the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits Golf Course. Along with Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy, he is one of only three Europeans to have won the major. Following a combined score of 277(-11) along with Bubba Watson, the pair had to compete in a three-hole play-off for the title. The European Tour man played out the holes for level par, while the American was one over par.

The reigning US Open winner reached the top spot in the world rankings after finishing runner up in the 2011 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Luke Donald beat him in the final. He remained there for eight weeks before being overtaken by Westwood.

The second tournament win of the year for the Dusseldorf born player came in the WGC-HSBC Champions event. That was the first World Championship win of his career as he shot all four rounds in the 60s to prevail by three strokes ahead of Fredrik Jacobson.

In 2013 Kaymer decided to play on the PGA Tour, as well as travelling to Europe for some events on the European Tour.
