Germany is our playground tonight

After securing odds-against winners in the first two days of the week, Kevin Hatchard is looking for another one in Germany this evening.

Wormatia Worms v Mechtersheim

Galway United delivered for us last night, as their extraordinary domination of the Irish second tier continued with a 3-1 win over Waterford. We've made a strong start to the week, and we'll look to maintain that with an odds-against success in Germany. We're dipping into the obscure waters of the fifth tier, the Oberliga, as Wormatia Worms take on Mechtersheim.

The hosts are nothing to do with worms of the wiggly variety. They are from the Upper Rhine city of Worms, not too far from Mainz and Frankfurt. If you like drinking Liebfraumilch wine, you'll be thrilled to know it originated in Worms.

On the pitch, Wormatia Worms were relegated from the fourth-tier Regionalliga last term, but now they are making a decent fist of getting back up at the first attempt. Although runaway leaders Eintracht Trier look uncatchable (they have taken 46 points from 16 games), Wormatia Worms are seven points adrift of the playoff spot, but they still have three games in hand.

Eight of Wormatia Worms' 13 league games have featured at least four goals, including five of their seven outings at their EWR Arena. They have scored at least twice in all but one of their home games.

Opponents Mechtersheim are finding life at this level tough. They are in the automatic dropzone, and they have only won two of their first 14 league matches. Strangely, they have one of the best defensive records in the division, with just 22 goals leaked in 14 games.

We can get 23/20 on the Sportsbook for Under 3.5 Goals, and while Wormatia Worms' prolific attack might make the game an uncomfortable watch, Mechtersheim are actually awkward opponents. Only one of their eight away games in the league have featured more than three goals, and they have scored just four goals across their last seven road trips. I think they can frustrate the hosts, at least for a while.
