Sunday Football Tips: Eye up cards bet in Basque derby

There's always potential for card chaos in Spanish derbies and Sunday's Basque edition looks well worth a look.

It's produced 60+ booking points (that's 10 for a yellow card, 25 for a red) in 10 of the last 14 renewals.

To emphasise the rivalry, there's been a card shown inside 15 minutes of 10 of the last 16 too.

This season, Real Sociedad are off to a flier, leading La Liga, and there's no doubt Athletic Bilbao would take great pleasure in helping knock them off that perch, particularly after losing the Copa del Rey final to them in April.

The 'player to be carded' market makes appeal given the potential for cards and in a bid to find a big-priced winner, I'll combine one selection from each team.

For Athletic Club, centre-back Inigo Martinez is an obvious selection.

The centre-back is one of few to have crossed the divide between these clubs and the fact he's ex-Real helps explain why he's been carded in four of his seven derbies in the red and white stripes. Overall, he's now been carded in eight of his last 15 derbies.

Turning to Real, left-back Aihen Munoz looks worth adding to a Bet Builder.

He's already been carded in four of his 13 games this season. Last term, it was seven cards in 16 starts.

Referee Juan Martinez Munuera has booked him in two of their three previous meetings and while the official isn't the best appointment we could wish for in terms of his card record this season, his previous Basque derby produced 65 booking points.

Other similar 'big rival' games have seen five cards in last season's El Clasico and seven in the Madrid derby in 2018.

The singles are also worth considering - it's been that kind of week where one lands and the other doesn't. Yesterday it was three out of four!
