S.S.C Napoli are an Italian professional football club based in Naples at the Stadio San Paolo. They play in Serie A, the top-flight championship in Italy.
They were founded in 1926 and have gone on to become one of the most recognisable teams in European football.

Napoli have twice won Serie A and have also finished as runners-up on five occasions. They first won the title in 1987 and then three years later they regained the trophy. Success has also been achieved in the cup competitions in Italy; they have lifted the Coppa Italia four times and also secured the Supercoppa Italiana in 1990.
Winning the UEFA Cup in 1989 will go down as one of the highlights in the club's history so far. European glory was first achieved in the Coppa delle Alpi in 1966, whilst they were crowned winners of the Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1976, a competition that no longer exists.
The biggest low point in the club's history came back in 2004 when they went bankrupt. Fortunately for them, film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis invested into the club as they reverted back to their original name of Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli. The financial crisis saw them placed into Serie C, but it took them just three seasons to rise back to the top flight once again.
A football club in Naples was first founded in 1904 when Englishmen William Poths Hector M. Bayon established Naples Foot-Ball & Cricket Club. A couple of years later they shortened their name to just Naples Foot-Ball Club. Unfortunately for them, they could not take part in the Italian Championship as it was only available for northern clubs to enter.
Back in 1912 the club had a large contingent of foreign players who broke away to form Internazionale Napoli. Both teams entered the Italian Championship for the 1912-13 season and were placed in the Campania section.
Not long after World War One, the two clubs merged after failing to pick up success alone. The new club became known as FBC Internaples or in full, Foot-Ball Club Internazionale-Naples.
The football team in Naples finally settled with the name Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli in 1964. That is their full title today.
The most notable player ever to feature for Napoli has been Diego Maradona. He joined the club in 1984 from Barcelona and spent seven years in Italy, during which time he was a key part of their championship winning teams.
