Their nickname is the Cottagers and they play their home games at Craven Cottage, which holds 25,700 fans.

When the club was first established in 1879, they were known as Fulham St Andrew's Church Sunday School F.C. They were established by a group of worshipers from the Church of England on Star Road in West Kensington.

In 1887 they won the West London Amateur Cup, their first trophy of any kind. By the time they secured the West London League in 1893 they had changed their name to Fulham F.C.

Fulham dropped their amateur status on December 12th, 1898, and they joined the Southern League's Second Division. At this point they were the second professional club from London as Arsenal had done the same a little earlier.

It took them until 1903 to gain promotion to the Southern League First Division. In 1906 back-to-back league titles followed in this championship.

After a sustained period of success in the Southern Leagues, they entered the Football League in 1907. They initially joined the Second Division where they lost their opening game 1-0 to Hull. They did, though, defeat Derby a few days later on the road to record their first success.

The Cottagers gained promotion from the Second Division in 1932 as Champions. It marked the first of three league titles at this level.

In 1949 they got their first taste of the top flight. They struggled to make their mark and ended up finishing last in their third season there.

After years of floating up and down the four respective leagues in England, they were taken over by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed in 1997. He invested money into the club and it did not take long for them to reach the Premier League, in 2001.

Al-Fayed sold the club to American billionaire Shahid Khan in July 2013 for a fee in the region of £150-200million. Khan also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.

Although Fulham have never won a major trophy, they did go close in 2010 when they reached the final of the UEFA Europa League. It was an incredible run for the English club but they were denied the trophy by Atletico Madrid, who won 2-1 after extra-time in the final in Hamburg.
