The goals will not flow for the Big River in Portugal tonight, says Tobias Gourlay
Rio Ave v Benfica
Saturday 20:30
A turkey in Turkey last night as Alanyaspor and Karabukspor played out an underwhelming 1-1 draw. Tonight, though, we're staying on the right side of that result in Portugal.
First plays fourth in the Portuguese Liga tonight and somebody's 0 has got to go. Rio Ave and Benfica have both won 3/3 so far this term, and notched a couple of clean sheets apiece. Last season, Benfica won their two head-to-heads 2-0 and 1-0, and we fancy it'll be another low scorer this evening.
Going back into last term, Luis Castro's hosts have managed clean sheets in 8/10 at Estadio dos Arcos. Eight of those matches also finished with Under 2.5 Goals in total.
Benfica are stronger than most of the Big River's opponents in those previous games, but they are not as prolific on the road as their big name might suggest. Rui Vitoria's have struck more than once in only 2/13 away from home.
On Vitoria's watch it's 23/35 away games with Under 2.5 Goals and, up against a stiffer-than-average defence in Rio Ave, that's the outcome we're backing.
