"Sunderland’s defeats to Leicester and Norwich followed a poor pre-season, and with many tougher assignments ahead, this is already shaping up to be a long hard season for Dick Advocaat’s side."
Andrew Hughes thinks Swansea can add to Sunderland's misery on Saturday and help to land another weekend multiple.
Bet 1: Back Swansea to beat Sunderland at 2.111/10
Swansea have kicked off their Premier League campaign in fine form, earning a point at Stamford Bridge and then registering a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle, and although at first glance they look a short price for an away side, such is Sunderland's current form, the Swans still offer value even at 2.111/10
Sunderland's defeats to Leicester and Norwich followed a poor pre-season, and with many tougher assignments ahead, this is already shaping up to be a long hard season for Dick Advocaat's side.
At Leicester, their defence was a shambles, and they seemed toothless in attack against Norwich. They will make changes for this game, but as Mike Norman points out in his preview for the Saturday Football Tipsheet, the home side are devoid of confidence. Swansea have bagged five points from their last three trips to the Stadium of Light and can grab another three on Saturday.
Bet 2: Back Scotland to beat Italy at 1.625/8
Italy ended the Six Nations with a whimper and their World Cup preparations have been far from ideal. A threatened player strike was averted, but the dispute cost them a week of training which is sure to leave them rusty for their first warm-up game.
Scotland go into this match on a run of six successive defeats, but their World Cup build up got off to a promising start with a 28-22 defeat in Dublin, a game in which they matched the home side for the first hour. That will have sharpened them up and they should prove too strong for an Italian side that should be as physically tough as ever, but which is lacking in creativity. Back a Scotland victory.
Bet 3: Back Leigh to beat Wakefield at 2.6213/8
Leigh Centurions knocked Wakefield out of the Challenge Cup in May and they can pull off another victory over the Wildcats this weekend.
Wakefield have improved on their abysmal Super League form in their first two assignments of the Qualifiers, leading against Salford in their opener, before beating Bradford Bulls comfortably last Saturday.
But the Bulls had been on a run of poor form going into the Qualifiers and Leigh, winners of the Championship shield, will offer a stiffer test. They have lost to Salford and Hull KR but up against the weakest of the Super League side, and in desperate need of a win, they will throw everything at the Wildcats. Back the home win.
