Weekend Multiple: Back Everton to contain champions

Chelsea’s season has been a bit of a horror show so far
Chelsea’s season has been a bit of a horror show so far

"Jose Mourinho will be desperate to stem the flow of goals and we can expect a more familiar Chelsea display this weekend."

Andrew Hughes thinks Everton can hold Chelsea to a point at Goodison Park and help to land another weekend multiple in the process

Bet 1: Back Everton to draw with Chelsea at 3.55/2

Chelsea's dreadful start to the season is the second worst by a defending champion since the Premier League began but they should be able to emerge from a tough assignment on Merseyside with a point.

The corresponding fixture last season finished 6-3 to the visitors, but this year's encounter is likely to be far less entertaining. Everton have not scored in their last two Premier League games and have only won two of their last eight, although they are hard to beat at home.

Chelsea have let in two goals or more in each of their last four league games, and as Jaymes Monte points out in his match preview, only Sunderland have conceded more so far this season. Jose Mourinho will be desperate to stem the flow of goals and we can expect a more familiar Chelsea display this weekend. Back the visitors to hold on for a point.

Bet 2: Back Widnes to beat Wakefield at 1.538/15

Wakefield have improved on their dismal regular season form in the Qualifiers, and have recorded a couple of victories, against Bradford and Leigh. But they remain the worst Super League team and I think that fact will be underlined against Widnes.

The Vikings have won three out of four in the Qualifiers and ran in 56 points in thrashing Bradford last time. They've won their last two against Wakefield, including a 30-18 victory on their last visit to the Belle Vue Stadium, in May, and they should be too strong for the Wildcats again on Saturday.

Bet 3: Back San Francisco Giants to beat San Diego Padres at 1.664/6

San Diego Padres gave up four home runs to lose their last game against Colorado and I can't see them getting anything from their trip to San Francisco.

The Giants suffered seven defeats on their latest ten-game road trip; a run that has left them way off the pace in the chase for a wild card play-off spot. But the return to AT&T Park should given them a boost and likely starting pitcher Jake Peavy, who boasts a good record at home, should have the edge over San Diego's Andrew Cashner who is 2-7 on the road.
