A case of Varsity blues for the column last Saturday as Cambridge salvaged a point at Oxford in a 1-1.

Neil Harris tweaked the tactics in the second half by forcing the U's wide and it worked and they certainly had a better second 45 minutes.

Having watched Wimbledon in that dreadful game on Sky at Bromley, I can't say it was much of enjoyable experience, but since then, Wimbledon are unbeaten and earned a 0-0 against MK Dons.

AFC Wimbledon's League One matches this season have witnessed just 12 total goals scored (5 for, 7 against), with only Bradford's featuring fewer overall (11) and I can see another close one and would favour Cambridge to nick a 1-0.

KEY OPTA STAT: AFC Wimbledon have won just one of their six Football League meetings with Cambridge United (D1 L4), a 4-1 away victory in League Two in January 2016.

Leg 2: Plymouth Argyle v Burton Albion Tip: Back BTTS 'Yes' @ 8/111.73

Plymouth have won each of their last three league games against Burton Albion, as many as their first 15 against them in the Football League beforehand (W3 D6 L6) and are strong favourites to do so again at Home Park this weekend.

The home win is not exactly an exciting price at 8/131.61 have gained some decent points already this term.

Burton's 'goals for' record gives us a chance to back the BTTS here, as six of their last seven have all hit that particular target and the only time Gary Bowyer's side have failed to score was against Oxford.

KEY OPTA STAT: Plymouth have averaged just 41% of the possession across their League One matches this season, the second-lowest tally in the third tier ahead of only Bromley (36%).

There are 80 job applications apparently for the vacant managerial position at Peterborough, which reminded me of my old manager back in the 1990s who applied for the Ajax job citing in his letter he lived near a canal and failed to miss an episode of Van Der Valk.

Luke Williams never got going as manager and his insistence on playing a 4-4-2 with wingers was a disaster.

Posh are unlikely to make the new appointment for Saturday's game and Stockport should see this as a perfect opportunity to get three points.

Backing the BTTS Yes usually doesn't go hand in hand with Posh on the road but Stockport despite drawing 0-0 recently with Sheffield Wednesday are usually good for a goal and four of their League Two matches have hit BTTS.

KEY OPTA STAT: Stockport have netted 16 goals in League One so far this season, the most of any team in the competition and their most at this stage of an EFL campaign since 1991-92 (also 16).

Leg 1: Oldham Athletic v Salford City Tip: Back Oldham @ 29/202.45

Following a shaky start and the pressures of League Two title favourites, Salford at least are showing some quality and since losing their first three, have won three of their last four.

Backing Salford will always come with a bit of a tax as one of the bigger sides in the division, but Oldham look overpriced given their home record.

They've beaten Swindon and Port Vale 3-0 and 2-0 this term at Boundary Park and their only defeat came against Chesterfield, but they created chances in that.

With the price at 29/202.45 it boosts our treble with a couple of shorter ones for the weekend.

KEY OPTA STAT: Salford have been ahead on the scoresheet for just 13.5% of their League Two matches this season, the second-lowest percentage ahead of only Northampton (5.6%).

Leg 2: Tranmere Rovers v Walsall Tip: Back Under 2.5 Goals @ 10/111.91

Walsall let me down two weeks ago against Rochdale in a 0-0, but they at least helped us to an Under 2.5 winner last Saturday against a woeful Port Vale.

Tranmere have lost just one of their opening seven league matches this term (W2 D4), they last achieved that feat in 2018-19 when they were eventually promoted from League Two, so Darrell Clarke is doing something right.

Walsall remain unbeaten across their seven League Two matches this season (W3 D4), just the fourth EFL campaign during which they've remained unbeaten at this stage after 1979-80, 2018-19 and 2020-21 and with both collecting a hefty number of draws (eight between them) that could be a viable option.

The hosts are just 1.15 xG at home this term and Walsall away hold a 1.42 figure and backing the Under 2.5 Goals looks feasible as Walsall often struggle to break teams down.

KEY OPTA STAT: Tranmere Rovers have lost each of their last three league games against Walsall and could lose four in a row to the Saddlers in the Football League for the first time since November 1922.

Leg 3: York City v Gillingham Tip: Back York to win @ 40/851.47

York have won all three matches on home soil this term and they should justify a short price this Saturday.

I wouldn't normally be in the habit of tipping at 1/21.50 or the catchier 40/851.47, and Gillingham might be underrated in the market here but York have goals in them, and that could be enough.

Scott Lindsey's side hit four against Swindon and three versus Bristol Rovers and in Alex Newbury, a striker flying with six in eight.

At home, the Minstermen have one of the best xG's in the division at 1.92 and Gillingham, for all their improvement, might find this tough.

KEY OPTA STAT: York have won each of their last three home Football League games and will be looking to win four in succession for the first time within the same campaign since November 1997 (run of six).
