"Blackpool are winless in their last 14 away league trips to Gillingham (six defeats in their last eight)."
Alan Dudman returns with his League One selections for Saturday, and with four bets for the afternoon, he thinks Gillingham look overpriced...
Stanley look value to frustrate Robinson's U's
Accrington Stanley v Oxford United
Accrington always provided entertaining football last season - both in terms of scoring and conceding at home. They are a better side than last term's 17th place, and they've started out with a win at home and a loss on the road.
Two quality finishes set up the points for the 2-0 victory at the Wham against Peterborough - a big result as the Posh are one of the ante-post favourites, and a replication of that makes them contenders here against an Oxford team that have failed to fire thus far, and the visitors look bad favourites here at 2.6613/8.
Karl Robinson lost his best centre-back (Rob Dickie) following their playoff final defeat, and his side are possibly feeling the hangover effects from that as they are both goalless and winless in their two matches.
Historically this fixture has thrown up goals, with 25 in the last six meetings, so backers of the Over 2.5 will be on red alert.
However, I prefer the Draw No Bet here on the hosts, as sides have been able to soak up pressure from Oxford, who enjoy plenty of the ball, but they've displayed no cutting edge as yet.
KEY OPTA STAT: Accrington have lost just one of their last five home league games against the U's.
Expect goals for County Ground clash
Swindon Town v Burton Albion
Both sides will feel they have a chance of picking up the points here. Town got up-and-running with a 3-1 home win against Rochdale on MD1, but looked tired in the second half in their most recent loss at Blackpool.
Swindon's manager Richie Wellens has a new-look team and they are the favourites at 2.447/5, but there's a nagging doubt with the recent loss about getting involved with that bet.
Burton, likewise, are rebuilding under new boss Jake Buxton, and backers of the Brewers will be heartened with the fact they have won three of their last four league encounters with the Robins.
My preference for this is to play the Both Teams To Score market at 1.768/11 with the 'Yes'.
Burton have conceded 13 in their last five away matches, and in both EFL Cup and League One games, backers of that bet for the two teams would have collected on six from seven.
KEY OPTA STAT: Following their 2-0 defeat at Blackpool, Swindon will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses in the league for the first time since October 2019.
Young Gills look a big price, but play the cover bet
Gillingham v Blackpool
On last season's form, Gillingham would be a lot shorter in the betting than the 3.1085/40 on offer for Saturday. Both the Gills and Blackpool have won and lost a game each, and I would never put anyone backing the outsider of the two in this league, as anyone can beat anyone.
The hosts have undergone a complete overhaul from last term. Manager Steve Evans lost a couple of players to Bristol Rovers, and two of his central midfielders in Kyle Dempsey and Stuart O'Keefe are injured - the latter for the whole season.
However, young players have had a chance to shine, and whilst sloppiness cost them at home to Hull, they more than matched the relegated Tigers. Their 2-3 win at Wigan recently showed the good and the bad with youth - as they do make mistakes.
Blackpool dominated possession at Plymouth and lost 1-0 on MD1, but they had a lot of chances. I can see them creating here, but I can also see the hosts scoring so it might be worth a go on the Over 2.5 Goals for this because it's such a big price at 2.226/5.
KEY OPTA STAT: Blackpool are winless in their last 14 away league trips to Gillingham (six defeats in their last eight).
