Preston have failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 Championship games

High-flying Preston welcome basement battlers QPR to Deepdale for Friday night's televised Championship affair. Betfair writer Mark O'Haire is forecasting goals at both ends...

Preston 2.1211/10 chief Ryan Lowe was left "angry and disappointed" by his side's first-half performance in Tuesday night's 4-0 thrashing at Middlesbrough. Looking to bounce back from a late loss to Cardiff at the weekend, the Lilywhites turned in a turgid display in Teesside and were trailing 3-0 at the break as Boro ran riot.

Post-match, Lowe outlined his frustration at the performance and result, saying, "There were harsh words in the dressing room. The first-half performance was nowhere near the levels we expect - when we went 1-0 down - a bit of fear set in and I don't want that with my players. We have let everyone down and we have to put it right as quickly as we can."

Lowe had made four changes to his team, one of which was enforced. Robbie Brady served his one-match suspension, whilst Alan Browne, Duane Holmes and Ched Evans dropped to the bench. Andrew Hughes, Ryan Ledson, Mads Frokjaer and Will Keane came into the team with Ali McCann, Greg Cunningham and Emil Riis all remaining on the treatment table.

QPR 3.929/10 bagged their first home success of the season in midweek as Rangers came from behind to beat Stoke 4-2 at Loftus Road. Lyndon Dykes put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot before the Potters drew level right on half-time. The visitors were reduced to 10 men early in the second half yet still managed to take a 2-1 advantage on the hour mark.

But three QPR goals in the final 15 minutes from Dykes, a Ben Pearson own goal, and Chris Willock completed the turnaround to give Marti Cifuentes his first victory in charge of the Hoops, ending a club record 12-game winless home record. Speaking post-match, the Spanish coach was understandably delighted with the result.

Cifuentes said, "It was a rollercoaster of a game and a fantastic win for us. Conceding before half-time is always a bit tougher. I told the guys it was a great challenge for us to show what kind of team we want to be; a losing team with sad faces and complaining or a team with ambition who chases victory. We did that even after they scored their second goal."

Goals forecast for Friday night

Preston led the Championship after seven rounds of action (W7-D1-L0), although North End have struggled to match those consistently impressive early season results since (W2-D3-L6), failing to even keep a clean sheet across their last 13 second-tier fixtures. The Lilywhites have fallen out of the top-six, winning just once in their last five Deepdale dates (W1-D2-L2).

Expected Points (xP) ratings have PNE ranked inside the bottom-six across their past 12 Championship contests, returning an underwhelming 37% Expected Goals (xG) ratio. Ryan Lowe's troops have lost the xG battle in nine of those 12 tussles, whilst only Rotherham have generated a lower xG output than Preston's 0.77 xG across that same sample.

Surprisingly, struggling QPR are above their hosts in both the xP and xG metrics over that same 12-game period with Rangers displaying obvious improvement since Marti Cifuentes took charge of the West Londoners (W1-D2-L1). QPR have won the shot count in all four matches and sit inside the top-half in the aforementioned xG and xP data points.

With that in-mind, QPR Double Chance at 8/111.73 could be of interest but the 4/51.80 on Both Teams To Score holds more appeal at the price. It's a play that's paid-out in eight of Preston's nine Deepdale dates already this season, as well as 62% of Lowe's 45 home Championship matches in charge of North End.
