League One big hitters Wolves face a tricky Capital One Cup trip to Morecambe. Can Kenny Jackett grab his first win as manager?
Morecambe v Wolves, Tuesday 19:45, Sky Sports 1, Match Odds: Morecambe 4.47/2, Wolves 1.9620/21, The Draw 3.7511/4
After a pretty uneventful start to life as Wolves manager with a 0-0 draw at Preston at the weekend, Kenny Jackett will be keen on securing that winning feeling in the Capital One Cup.
His Wolves side are still a club in a state of transfer flux. Despite a few injuries within the camp, Jackett is unlikely to call upon Roger Johnson, Stephen Ward, Kevin Doyle, Jamie O'Hara or Tongo Doumbia tonight, who aren't training with the squad currently following their pleas to leave.
With the new man keen to make an early impression, he'll probably stick with the majority of the side that drew with Preston in order to leave Morecambe with the right result.
The Shrimps kicked off their season with a disappointing 1-0 reverse at Wycombe. Reports from the game suggested that Jim Bentley's side lacked any real spark in the final third and, looking at their injury list, it's easy to see why.
Last season's top goalscorer Jack Redshaw has been ruled out for the rest of the year whilst new signing Marcus Marshall and wing wizard Kevin Ellison both limped off at the weekend with hamstring problems.
Even with an injury-hit backline, Wolves shouldn't be in too much trouble conceding against a strike force of Jack Sampson and Padraig Amond, who both are relatively inexperienced even for League Two standards.
The visitors should deliver the goods for backers of the 1.9620/21 and get our tentative nod but, like Morecambe, their goal threat doesn't fill you with much confidence.
Jackett will be relying on Leigh Griffiths to bag goals this campaign. The Scottish striker fired 23 on loan at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership last season but trusting the goalscoring talents of a player based on his form in Scottish football is an easy trap to fall into.
We're not falling into it. He has to show us he can regularly score at League One level before we put our faith in him. Wolves, should however, through the likes of Dave Edwards and Bakary Sako, have enough quality to bag one or two goals tonight.
Correct Score
This looks a perfect opportunity to incorporate the likely low-scoring nature of the match into the outright win bet for Wolves. Along with backing the away win, dutching stakes on both 1-0 at 8.88/1 and 2-0 at 11.010/1 make perfect sense from a money-making point of view.
Best Bet: Back Wolves to win 1-0 @ 8.88/1 and 2-0 @ 11.010/1
Other Recommended Bet: Back Wolves to win @ 1.9620/21
