I am very happy with Newcastle's season so far
I am very happy with Newcastle's start to the season and transfer window; I've seen enough to convince me that we've got 11 players who want to be at the club and who are really trying and buying into what the manager wants to do.
It was an encouraging transfer window; they've sold players for really good prices who didn't want to be there.
It looks as if they've brought players in who are willing to run and fight and scrap. And I'll accept that. I guess I still think it'll be challenging at times this season and I do think we'll finish in around mid-table.
But with the manager being young, with a lot of the players being young and with the manager trying to get his ideas across, I'll accept that. I've seen enough to be optimistic.
Jaissle has impressed me
I have been really impressed by Matthias Jaissle so far. I think he's come across really well. I think he'd be happy with the transfer window that Newcastle have had, and I think he's had a really, really positive start.
Newcastle were unlucky not to take all three points against Liverpool. They got a good result in the Carabao Cup and they went to Spurs and had to suffer a bit in the first half and battle to keep it 0-0. But then they battered Spurs in the second half. So yeah, I think he's had a really encouraging start. And long may it continue.
Not only have they brought in the signings that they've brought in, but it looks as if they've got two new players in Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa.
We didn't see any of what we've seen up to now last season from the Elanga or Wissa. That's really encouraging that they've bought into the manager's ideas. I know they had one or two injuries, but they look completely different players to what we saw last season at times.
Woltemade was an expensive mistake for Newcastle
Nick Woltemade had a wonderful start at Newcastle. I feel there's no doubt there's a player there. But I'm not sure there's a player in there suited to the intensity and the pace that the English top-flight plays at. I think his style will be more suited to abroad rather than to Premier League football.
It was a very difficult situation for the board when they bought him. I wouldn't blame one individual; I'd blame the whole circumstances. They were backed into a corner, and they had to act and I guess they acted in desperation when signing Woltemade.
As I said, he had a good start. I don't think his style of play is suited to the intensity and how quick and how aggressive the Premier League is. I don't think there's a bad bone in his body. I think he meant well. I think he had the right attitude. It is just his style, and I wish him nothing but success at Juventus and I hope he has a really good season and does well in Serie A.
I have got no animosity or anything but to give him well wishes at Juventus. He was a nice lad. I just don't think his style was suited to Newcastle or in particular the Premier League, but there's no doubt it was an expensive mistake from Newcastle.
Maresca will be under huge pressure this season
When you look at the honours Enzo Fernandez has to his name - I mean he's won the World Cup - it's very difficult to say that he's not worth the price tag that City have paid for him.
There's a trend at the minute, isn't there? You've got to start off with him and his fee from Benfica, then it was Caicedo and then Declan Rice and then of course Elliot Anderson, then Enzo Fernandez again, with the midfielders going for ridiculous amounts of money.
I get it for forwards as when you pay that investment you're looking for goals and whatever, but as a midfielder? Clearly there's no doubt he's got ability there because you don't move for that money twice if you haven't got something very special. But the transfer fees for midfielders are surprising me. It's incredible.
You're paying that amount to win the league. So, City now have to be title challengers. And if they don't win the league then I guess the manager would be under huge pressure. You don't spend that money to finish second or third.
I haven't got a clue how Man City have been able to spend the money they have while they are still under those charges.
I mean I get why there's so many questions being asked, it's just gone on too long, hasn't it? I saw an interview with Richard Masters not so long ago when he said that he understands how everyone views it and looks at it, but he says it's the independent commission decision, so I don't know.
United can't challenge for the Premier League
Manchester United can't challenge for the title, but I see them challenging for top four.
I don't see them challenging for the title, no. I don't think they're good enough. I don't think they've spent enough. I don't think they've recruited enough to challenge for the title.
So, I'd be really surprised if they were challenging for the title.
Liverpool and United are way behind Arsenal, City and Chelsea
I thought Liverpool could have had the money for buying Barcola as well as buying a fullback or two, but they invested heavily in Frimpong and in Kerkez last season and clearly at the minute as defenders they're not working because Liverpool are really poor defensively.
And I think for a while they haven't addressed that issue. So, I don't see them challenging for the title either.
I don't think they'll have enough to win the title, they're behind Man City and I think they're behind Arsenal. I guess Chelsea will have one or two issues defensively. But I think there's those three that I see challenging for the title. I don't see Liverpool or Man Utd being good enough to challenge for the title.
Alvarez would have boosted Arsenal's European hopes
Arsenal's failre to sign a left winger shouldn't affect them in the Premier League title race this season. They've recruited really well. They clearly wanted to bring one more, top-class forward.
Viktor Gyokeres is a good player, but he's not top-class. Having said that, he did enough to help them win the league last season. But a signing like Julien Alvarez would have pushed them that bit further towards the Champions League as well.
With Alvarez, Arsenal would have won the league and had a great chance in the Champions League. But I'm not feeling too sorry for them with the squad they've got because they still recruited really, really well.
It was an embarrassing transfer window for Everton
It looked and it sounded pretty chaotic and hectic for Everton on deadline day, it was an embarrassing transfer window for the club. They got Jack Grealish, but with Folarin Balogun coming in, then not and then being pulled at the last minute, it wasn't a good look at all to be honest. They're going to need some luck with players not getting injured.
The big thing they need now is luck because if they have one or two injuries up top then they could be in for a rough ride. So somehow, they've got to try and get through to January.
I don't think they'll go down. I think with Moyesy's experience, they'll have enough to stay up. I think I had them originally as one of the one teams that could get into the Conference League positions, eighth or something like that, but I think I would have to review that after their transfer window.
I think David Moyes might have been fuming at the window. He has brought Grealish in, but he's been left very, very light up top and in the most important positions. So, he's going to need a lot of luck and keep Thierno Barry fit.
I don't know how you can find yourself in that position with only one recognised striker. I know he brought Grealish in, but he can't play in that position, and they lost N'Diaye to Man City.
They need a lot of luck to get through till January. My guess would be Moyes is fuming at what went on and what didn't go on in the transfer window.
