Yuvraj Singh is an Indian international cricketer who currently plays for the Indian national team, Punjab, in India's domestic league and the Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League. Yuvraj is a left-handed middle-order batsman, widely-regarded as one of the biggest hitters in international cricket, and also an occasional off-spin bowler. Yuvraj made his ODI debut in 2000, going on to make his Test debut in 2003. In 2011, he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour, forcing him to spend a year out of the game.

Born on 12 December, 1981, Yuvraj is the son of former Indian fast bowler and film star Yograj Singh. The all-rounder first made a name for himself after coming through the ranks at Punjab, catching the Indian selectors' eye at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the 1999/2000 season, where Yuvraj's all-round performances earned him the Player of the Tournament award and a call-up to the national squad.
Yuvraj made his India ODI debut at the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy against Kenya, going on to hit an impressive 84 from 80 balls against the likes of Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath. Almost 300 ODI appearances later, Yuvraj has racked up over 8300 runs during a stellar career, including 13 centuries and 51 half centuries, taking 111 wickets. Yuvraj was a key member of India's 2011 World Cup success, winning four man of the match awards from his nine appearances in the tournament, scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets.
While Yuvraj has been one of the world's best ODI exponents, he has never really been able to transfer his one-day success into the Test arena. That said, the all-rounder has scored nearly 2000 runs over the space of 40 Test appearances, hitting three Test centuries, all against Pakistan, with a top score of 169 coming in 2007.
At the 2007 World Twenty20, Yuvraj famously hit six sixes in an over against England's Stuart Broad, becoming one of only three players to have achieved the feat in history, going on to play an instrumental role in India winning the inaugural World Twenty20.
Yuvraj was one of the faces of the first ever Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 as the captain of the Kings XI Punjab. On 1 May 2009, Yuvraj picked up his first hat-trick in T20 cricket against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Yuvraj joined new franchise Pune Warriors in 2011 as captain.
