Virat Kohli was born in Delhi, India on November 5th 1988. In 1998 Kohli became one of the first members of the West Delhi Cricket Academy. He first came to prominence in 2006 when he played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy on the day of his father's death. After learning of the news, he chose to stay and bat, going on to hit 90 runs. In 2008 he captained the Indian under-19 side to victory at the Cricket World Cup in Malaysia, and by 2008 he had made his debut for India in the One Day International (ODI) tour of Sri Lanka.

After continuing to impress with Delhi, a side he now captains, he was included in the 2011 summer Tour of the West Indies. Kohli struggled on his maiden Tour, making just 76 runs in five innings. He was then dropped for the side that toured England in 2011 but did play in the ODIs, which India won 5-0. Kohli was the highest run scorer with 270 runs.
At the end of 2011 he was included in the side that welcomed the West Indies to India, but he did not play until the final match, during which he hit a pair of fifties. He was then included in the December tour of Australia. Despite India losing 4-0, Kohli impressed. He scored his maiden hundred and was India's highest run scorer with 300.
In 2012 he was named vice-captain of the ODI side for the upcoming Asia Cup, in which he hit 183 against archrivals Pakistan. The knock is the joint-fourth highest score by an Indian in ODIs. He was then named in the two match series with New Zealand. He hit one century and two fifties at an average of 106.
The 2013 season got off to the best of starts as he helped India win the Champions Trophy, before he was handed the ODI captaincy for the tri-series with Sri Lanka and the West Indies, a series India won. He then kept the captaincy for the tour of Zimbabwe in the summer of 2013. The tour consisted of five ODIs and Kohli led India to a 5-0 whitewash. In October 2013 during an ODI with Australia he hit the fastest Indian century, needing just 52 balls to reach a ton.
In total Kohli has played 20 Tests for India, scoring 1,235 runs, including four hundreds, at an average of 41.16. He has played 124 ODI matches, hitting 5154 runs at an average of 51.54, as well as 17 centuries.
