Mitchell Johnson

Mitchell Johnson is a professional cricket player who was born in Queensland, Australia in 1981.

He is predominantly a left-arm fast bowler but is known for being capable with the bat as he earned a Test match century in 2009.

Johnson won the World Cup with Australia in 2007 and has been successful with the national team twice in the ICC Champions Trophy. In terms of individual honours, he was awarded the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2009.

The left-arm bowler started his career with his home state Queensland in 2001. After displaying some impressive form in domestic first-class cricket, he was called up to the Australia one-day squad in 2005. He made his debut against New Zealand in Christchurch in December of that year.

Johnson was part of the Australian squad that was successful in the 2006 Champions Trophy in India. His best figures of the tournament came against England in a group game when he took three wickets for 40 runs, including that of Kevin Pietersen.

Australia continued to dominate limited overs cricket in 2007. The Queenslander was among the squad that won the World Cup that year.

Later in 2007, Johnson made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at his home ground in Brisbane. His first victim was Thilan Samaraweera. 

The best figures of the Australian's career came against South Africa in 2008. He took 8/61 in the First Test in Perth. Seven of the wickets came on the second day, while he added to his tally on day three with a further wicket.

In the Third Test against South Africa in 2009, the bowler made his maiden century in an unbeaten 123. It took him 86 balls to reach his ton and beat his previous best Test score of 96. He was also able to take 16 wickets during the tour of South Africa, which helped him pick up the man of the series prize.  

Later in 2009, he was recognised for his form in one-day and Test cricket as he was named ICC Cricketer of the Year.

In 2012, the Australian took part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time in his career. He signed for the Mumbai Indians where he still remains for the Twenty20 competition.

When the bowler does take part in domestic cricket in Australia, he features for Western Australia. He moved there in 2008 from Queensland.
