Hampshire County Cricket Club were founded in 1863 and currently take part in the County Championship, the top flight of domestic cricket in England.

The county play their home games in Southampton at the Rose Bowl, which has a capacity of 25,000 and also hosts international cricket.
No batsman has scored more runs for the county than Phil Mead. Between 1905 and 1936 he recorded 48,892 across 700 matches.
Derek Shackleton still holds the record for the most wickets with 2,669. The bowler played for Hampshire from 1948 through to 1969.
In 1864 the county made their first class debut in a defeat against Sussex at their original home, the Antelope Ground.
They had to wait until 1961 before they won the County Championship for the very first time. The southern county ended that campaign with 268 points, 18 clear of second placed Yorkshire. They reached that tally after winning 19 of their 32 games. Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie led the side that year as they lost just seven games all season. Roy Marshall top scored with the bat with 2,455 runs, while Shackleton took the most wickets with a total of 153.
Hampshire's second title arrived 12 years later in 1973. This time the margin was much bigger at 34 points ahead of Surrey. They went through the campaign unbeaten with 10 wins and 10 draws from their 20 fixtures. Richard Gilliat lifted the trophy as captain that year. Gordon Greenidge ended the season with 1,620 runs, the highest in the side, while Bib Herman and Mike Taylor were both impressive with the ball, with 63 wickets each.
The county side won their first one-day competition in 1988 when they landed the Benson & Hedges Cup, after beating Derbyshire in the final at Lords.
More ODI success came in the 1990s. In 1991, they beat Surrey by four wickets to win the Natwest Trophy. The following year they were able to regain the Benson & Hedges Cup.
In 2003, Hampshire took part in Twenty20 for the first time. They won the domestic competition of this format in 2010 and then again in 2012.
The two-time County Championship winners have never struggled to attract some of the world's top overseas players. In 2000 Australia Shane Warne signed for the side. He played at the Rose Bowl until 2007 and was captain for the last four years of his spell in England.
