Craig Kieswetter

Craig Kieswetter is a South African-born English cricketer who currently plays for Somerset and the Brisbane Heat, and has also represented England in both the ODI and T20 teams. The wicket-keeper batsman began his international career playing for the South Africa Under-19s before making the decision to move to England in order to further his international hopes. After impressing for Somerset, Kieswetter made his full international debut in February 2010 against Bangladesh. Known as a powerful striker and a capable wicket-keeper, Kieswetter has established himself as a highly-valued Twenty20 cricketer.

Born in Johannesburg to an Afrikaner father and Scottish mother, Kieswetter made the move to England in 2007, a year after representing South Africa in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. After signing for Somerset, Kieswetter quickly went about establishing himself as one of English cricket's most exciting prospects, earning a place in the England Lions squad.

Kieswetter made his senior debut on 23rd February against the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, opening the batting in his England ODI debut. In just his third England appearance, Kieswetter scored a career-best 143 from 123 balls, taking apart the Bangladeshi bowling attack and announcing himself on the international scene.

Later that year, Kieswetter played a key part in England becoming ICC World Twenty20 champions, hitting 63 in the final against Australia to help his side to victory and earning the Man of the Match award in the process, finishing the tournament with 222 runs at an average of 31.71.

Kieswetter's good form dropped off on his return from the World Twenty20, scoring just 121 runs from eight ODIs against Australia and Bangladesh in the summer of 2010. Kieswetter's lack of form saw him dropped for England's ODI series against Pakistan, with Worcestershire's Steven Davies called up to replace Kieswetter as opening batsman and wicketkeeper. Despite keeping his place in England's T20 squad, Kieswetter wasn't recalled to the ODI side until June 2011, replacing Matt Prior behind the stumps although falling down the batting order to number five or six.

An aggressive striker of the ball, Kieswetter has often found himself yo-yoing up and down the batting order, used as an opener for both Somerset and England before finding himself placed down in the middle-order, where his powerful striking and ability to bat alongside the bowlers makes him a real asset.

Moving down the order has also resulted in a significant improvement in Kieswetter's wicket-keeping, and the 26-year old will be looking to strengthen his case for a call-up to England's Test side in 2014.
