Timeform reflect on last Saturday's Moss Properties Handicap at Doncaster...
This 13-runner handicap run at Doncaster over the trip of seven furlongs could be a race in which many of the runners will be worth following in the future. It certainly appears a race which can be expected to provide strong form.
Among the 13 contenders this looked to feature a number of up and coming three-year-olds. The race itself was quite a rough one, with the runners on top of each other at various stages, suggesting that this may have been run at an uneven gallop.
The winner, Magaling, was not inconvenienced by the uneven gallop and was impressive on his first increase in distance and there could be continued improvement to come from Luca Cumani's colt as he is by Medicean and his dam stayed two miles suggesting his future may lie over further. The fact that this race, even with the softish ground, tested finishing speed as much as stamina was testament to Magaling's ability and he showed a positive attitude, battling on top late on.
There was plenty of promise in behind too. Floor Show ran a fine race, just getting run out of it late on, despite racing wide away from the main pace. He looks every inch a sprinter and when reverted to six furlongs he can pick up a similar event.
The third horse, Clerk's Choice, stays further and had to switch widest of all to make his challenge. This was good effort after an absence and he will be of interest when stepped back up in trip.
Perhaps the main one to take out of the race was the fifth horse, Respite. She suffered little luck in-running and was persistently tightened meaning she had to really fight to make her challenge. Perhaps understandably when she had fought her way into contention there wasn't an awful lot left for the finish. She should be rated a lot closer to the winner and looks certain to go on and win handicaps in the near future.
