HID Race of the Day Preview

Timeform run the rule over the field for the European Breeders' Fund Upavon Fillies' Stakes (Listed) (1)...

Wymering File is a fascinating contender and it would be foolish to underrate
her claims in the light of the subsequent exploits of the ex-Greek sprinter
Ialysos, but preference is for Ave, who still looks as though she has more to
offer at this level. Cape Amber is best caught fresh, so could run a big race on her first run for her new stable. (PS)

Lady Deauville won three listed races and a Group 3 (in Germany) in 2008, seeming particularly well suited by a testing ten furlongs. She has been a long way short of her best on all four starts this term and is easy enough to oppose at present.

Cape Amber gained due reward for some creditable runs in group company when landing a ten-furlong listed race at Yarmouth when last seen in September. She goes well fresh and is likely to make an impact here for a new yard.

Cosmea did well over hurdles last winter and was back with a bang when dead-heating in a Sandown handicap in June. She was not so good last time, though, and has a stiff task stepping up in class.

Perfect Star put in creditable efforts on two of three starts in similar company this term, but failed to convince on her only previous try at this trip and all of her three wins were gained in handicaps.

Sweet Lilly is a talented but frustrating mare who managed to record only one win at this level in 2008. She has leading claims after shaping as though the ability was still there last time, but the percentage call is to oppose.

Syvilla was not disgraced in this grade at Newcastle in June, but couldn't reproduce that last time and her inconsistent nature is enough to look elsewhere.

Wymering File has only raced on all weather, winning eight of her twelve starts at up to twelve furlongs in Cyprus, including three classics. She was successful on her sole start in Greece in June and it is a fair bet she will get competitive on her first British start.

Splashdown produced improved form when battling on well to win in similar company over this trip at Newbury in June, but was somewhat disappointing on her follow-up bid last time and could find a few too good again.

Ave looked a smart filly in the making when sluicing up in an eight-furlong fillies' handicap here last month. She had Sweet Lilly behind when runner-up at this level over ten furlongs at York last time and is a major player here.

Sterling Sound displayed a willing attitude when scrambling home in an eight-furlong Ascot maiden last time, but steps up in grade here and the extra two furlongs needs to bring out plenty of improvement.

Wadaat had her easily best effort to date when second in the Italian Oaks. She was somewhere near that level when third in a listed race at Sandown in July, but bombed out last time and others look more solid.

This looks a good opportunity for Vertigo On Course, a fast-finishing third at Southwell last week. Young Dottie's success last month is working out well and she also makes appeal, while each-way players could do worse than side with Toolentidhaar....

Timeform Daily: Saturday, Wincanton, 13:20

Despite being the senior citizen of the party, Mister Nous retains plenty of ability, and having won five times in France appears ready to open his British account. The Rainbow Hunter could be more deadly now switched to handicaps and looks a big threat to the selection, with Strategic Plan rated third best....

Jim Tango is open to improvement over fences, and this looks to be Miss Pross' easiest task for some time, but the likeable Bamby gets the nod with conditions to suit back over fences....

Timeform Daily: Thursday, Southwell, 15:20

The two handicap debutants could be the ones to focus on here, with Ambrogina favoured more than Seamster. Knightfire will have to settle for a place again....
