Timeform Horses In Focus: Turnell set for good season after promising returns

Wetherby witnesses an impressive reappearance and a partnership between a popular National Hunt horse and a young jockey is starting to flourish, says Timeform.

"Rhys Flint has now been in the plate for Fair Along’s last three successes and the partnership should continue to thrive."

Andrew Turnell's Bible Lord has always been held in high regard and he made a striking seasonal reappearance when winning a listed handicap chase as Wetherby on Friday.

The son of Mister Lord's chasing career had been rather derailed by jumping errors at the back end of the 2008/9 season but on this occasion he proved notably fluent teaming up with his new jockey, Nick Scholfield, and looks one to take higher order in the chasing ranks later in the season.

The lack of a recent run took its toll towards the end of the two-and-a-half mile trip and Bible Lord was value for further than the official three-quarter length winning distance which he held over Gordon Elliott's Bauhaus at the finish. Turnell looks set for a good season as Micheal Flips also made an encouraging reappearance at Ascot on Saturday. He may fulfil his undoubted potential once stepped up in trip and faced with fences later in the campaign.

Fair Along is one of the most popular National Hunt horses of recent years and the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding made a sparkling hurdling return when running away with the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle last weekend.

Having disappointed in the Cesarewitch on his latest Flat appearance, Fair Along bounced right back to form when routing the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Pettifour by 18 lengths. His young rider, Rhys Flint, has now been in the plate for Fair Along's last three successes and the partnership should continue to thrive. The top staying hurdle races may again prove a bridge too far for Fair Along, but he does remain relatively unexposed over fences and his shrewd trainer is sure to place him to good effect.
