Carl Harris has a pair of bets on the first day of some huge horseracing action
We start a new month, it is October which really means looking forward to the winter and to the jumps. That said there is some big flat action that kicks off today at Newmarket with the big race being the Cambridgeshire on Saturday. We also have the Arc at Longchamp on Sunday, the culmination of the Flat season for many.
The card at Newmarket is of decent quality on Thursday with a couple of pattern races for us to find the winner. With some nice horses on show it should be an interesting day.
The Noel Murless Stakes has only a field of six runners but what it lacks in quantity it certainly makes up for in quality. The one that stands out, for me, is Manifest (3.10) who was a very easy winner, 19 lengths no less, of his maiden. Although it was not a great race the horse showed true class to win as easy as you like. Henry Cecil knows a good horse when he sees one and has wasted no time in running in pattern company. Akmal is the one to beat as this lightly raced son on Rainbow Quest could be something special.

She won a Listed race at Ascot before running second last time out to Emerald Commander at Haydock, solid form, and she should be the one to beat here. Nideeb is my best bet of the day.
