Plenty of members were on hand to welcome Miss Zooter into the winner's enclosure.
It was a good weekend for the Timeform Betfair Racing Club, with Miss Zooter hitting the mark in a hot fillies' handicap at Newbury and their other two runners, Saharia and Arabian Spirit, both shaping with encouragement on their seasonal return.
"The way Miss Zooter saw things out at Newbury suggests she’ll stay 1m and a trip to Royal Ascot could be on the agenda for the listed Sandringham Handicap"
Miss Zooter was expected to run well but was up against a number of similarly lightly-raced and unexposed fillies and was sent off at 16/1 (BSP 20.29) in a field of fifteen. However, she belied those odds and ran out a fairly ready winner in the end, carrying on the progress she made last year as she powered through from off the pace (traded at a high of [40.0] in-running) to beat Dubai Media and the strongly-fancied Plume by ¾ length and 1¼ lengths respectively.

On the evening card at Doncaster, it was Jeremy Noseda's Saharia who carried the club's colours in a 7f handicap. It was another well-contested race and he could manage only fourth, but it was nevertheless an encouraging return, going comfortably for a long way before his effort flattened out, shaping as if the run would bring him on. He's sure to get 1m in time, but he's hardly looked short of speed so far and there are likely to be more races for him before he has to step up, a view that was subsequently confirmed by the trainer.
Arabian Spirit had been the subject of some indifferent gallop reports in the build-up to his reappearance (Club members get regular work updates on their horses), but this ex-Ed Dunlop-trained gelding made an encouraging start for Richard Fahey in finishing third (beaten just over 5 lengths) behind Bollin Dolly at Ripon, briefly looking an even bigger threat. Arabian Spirit is potentially very well handicapped, now 11 lb lower than when runner-up in last year's Spring Cup at Newbury, and will arguably be of more interest when back over 1m.
The Club's next intended runner is Tom Dascombe's Press Release, who should put up a bold show in the 5f maiden at Musselburgh on Tuesday.
