US Open Betting: Top Swedish

Will Carl be the Top Swede in San Francisco?

"If you don’t fancy siding with big Carl in the outright market then maybe the Top Swedish market is the way to go."

Big Carl Pettersson looks the value in what could be a fairly weak heat, according to The Punter...

One player that has kept cropping up as I studied the US Open is Carl Pettersson and I see Paul Krishnamurty has tipped him up in his excellent Find Me A 100 Winner column too now.

Another golf writer whose previews are always well worth a read is Sam at GPG and he's picked out Pettersson as a candidate for the title this week as well. In fact, he's been advocating his chances at Olympic Club on Twitter for a few weeks now.

I can see where they're both coming from, he's a fairly prolific winner at a big price and Sam's Harbour Town link theory is very interesting. And here's another curious little snippet, one of Carl Pettersson's US PGA Tour wins was the 2008 Greensboro Classic, an event Scott Simpson won in 1987, the year he won the US Open here.

If you don't fancy siding with big Carl in the outright market then maybe the Top Swedish market is the way to go. Peter Hanson is a pretty warm order here but after being in the mix in his homeland last week, before ultimately failing, he could be a wee bit jaded. Even if he isn't, that performance could have been a bit of a one-off anyway because before last week he'd not been at his best for some time.

Of the others, Fredrik Jacobson has to be respected but isn't having the greatest of years, Robert Karlsson missed the cut again last week, this time in Memphis, at a venue he'd been runner-up at on his only two previous visits, and I have to wonder if a four day long grind is anywhere close to Alex Noren's cup of tea. He gave up in Wales after the first day a few weeks ago when conditions were tough. And he was defending the title then!

Selection:
Carl Pettersson @ 4.57/2 or above
