Premier League Results: City on the brink of Premier League title

Yaya Toures celebrates at the Sports Direct Arena after scoring two goals for Man City

City are now available to back at 1.152/13 to win the title whilst United - who have been matched at a low of 1.031/33 remember - are out to 6.86/1.

It was dubbed Significant Sunday, and that's almost how it turned out with Manchester City's win meaning they are within touching distance of the Premier League title.

Manchester City took a huge step towards winning the Premier League title thanks to a 0-2 win over Newcastle this afternoon.

The game was evenly balanced throughout with neither side registering many shots on target but there was a sense that Roberto Mancini's men had that extra 'cutting edge' should it be needed.

And it was an inspired Mancini sub that provided that cutting edge, Nigel de Jong coming on midway through the second half allowing Yaya Toure licence to get forward to score his two late goals. Toure was matched at 18.017/1 in the First Goalscorer market whilst the 0-2 Correct Score was backed at a high of 13.5n/a.

That result meant there was a subdued atmosphere at Old Trafford when Manchester United hosted Swansea. United's only chance to make next week's final day fixtures interesting was to register a huge win, but they could only manage a 2-0 victory meaning they are still eight goals behind their neighbours in the goal difference stakes.

City are now available to back at 1.152/13 to win the title whilst United - who have been matched at a low of 1.031/33 remember - are out to 6.86/1.

Tottenham could manage only a draw at Aston Villa meaning - along with Arsenal's draw yesterday - the race to finish in the top four will go right down to the wire. The draw all but mathematically guarantees Villa's Premier League status however.

Also taking a giant step towards safety were QPR thanks to a late Djibril Cisse goal against Stoke at Loftus Road, but it wasn't such good news for Bolton who squandered a 2-0 lead at home to West Brom in the game of the day. Elsewhere there was a win for Fulham over Sunderland whilst relegated Wolves played out a goalless draw with Everton.

Arsenal (1.11/10) and Tottenham (1.21/5) are the two clubs most likely to fill the Top Four positions according to the Betfair market, but Newcastle (5.14/1) and Chelsea (7.613/2) are still in with a shout should either (or both) of the north London clubs slip-up next weekend.

In the Relegation market QPR can now be backed at 3.8514/5 with Betfairians believing Blackburn (1.021/50) and Bolton (1.341/3) will be Championship clubs come next Sunday afternoon.
