The one who makes most appeal in Leopardstown's Group 3 'Mutamakina' Stakes is the progressive four-year-old City of Memphis for 'Hot Trainer' Paddy Twomey whose older fillies and mares are always worth respecting.
City of Memphis ran just twice last year, landing the odds in a six-furlong maiden at Cork on her debut in May, but was then pitched into the Irish 1000 Guineas less than three weeks later where she did very well given her lack of experience. Whilst giving the impression that a mile might have stretched her stamina, she still showed useful form in finishing fifth behind Lake Victoria.
City of Memphis wasn't seen out again until last month when she made a successful reappearance in a minor event at Gowran against male rivals over seven furlongs. Having led on the bridle two furlongs out, she went on to win in good style by a length and three quarters from Cowardofthecounty who had been a Group 3 winner as a two-year-old. With further improvement to come over what looks her optimum trip, City of Memphis looks capable of following up going back up in grade.

Leopardstown's Amethyst Stakes, a listed contest, represents a drop in class for Alcantor who will be making his first start for Joseph O'Brien. Alcantor regularly kept better company in France when trained by Andre Fabre, showing smart form, though we didn't see the best of him on his two appearances in Britain.
However, he's a three-time Group 3 winner in his native country, with his last win coming on his reappearance last season in the Prix Edmond Blanc at Saint-Cloud. He has also been placed at a higher level, notably when third in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, and he was beaten less than a length on his last try in Group 1 company when fourth in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp last September, finishing close up behind the likes of Rosallion and The Lion In Winter, showing that he handles quicker conditions.
That sort of form makes Alcantor top rated on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, and Group 1 entries suggest this will be a stepping-stone towards a return to better company.

Top weight Regal Renaissance will have her supporters in this mares' handicap chase, being a regular at the track and trained locally by Henry Daly, and she went close at Stratford last time, but she looks worth taking on here as the task of conceding a stone to Dan Skelton's mare Claim du Brizais might prove beyond her.
A winner over hurdles at Newton Abbot early last season, Claim du Brizais is yet to get her head in front over fences but she gives the firm impression that we still haven't seen the best of her over the larger obstacles. Her run at Warwick two starts ago was certainly a promising one in third when running on behind El Rojo Grande, and while she didn't shape as well when fourth back at the same track last time, she again wasn't subjected to too hard a race.
Heading the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings for her 'Hot Trainer', Claim du Brizais' current mark looks an exploitable one, therefore, and there's a strong suspicion that she can do better still as a chaser.
