Be Aware had some useful form over hurdles last season, but he has always looked more of the chasing type, and he has quickly developed into a smart performer in this sphere.
He immediately bettered his hurdles form when making a winning start over fences at Stratford in October, jumping adequately and readily asserting in the closing stages in the style of one with plenty more to offer.
Be Aware bettered his form in defeat when attempting to give a smart mare weight at Cheltenham next time, pulling miles clear of the remainder, and he ran to a similar level when finding only Arkle favourite Lulamba too strong in the Grade 1 Betfair Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown last month.
That performance was underpinned by an excellent timefigure and there isn't anything of Lulamba's calibre in this field. This looks an excellent opportunity for him to get his head back in front and you could argue he should be odds-on - he's at least 7lb clear of his rivals on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.

The Mick Appleby-trained Coul Angel had a strong finish to 2025, winning a trio of handicaps at Newmarket and Kempton, all over six furlongs, and he has been unlucky on his last two starts.
He caught the eye making up plenty of ground from an unpromising position when attempting to complete a hat-trick at Kempton two starts back, and similar comments apply to his latest run at Southwell.
That run got nowhere near to the bottom of him, settled in midfield but twice checked in his run when mounting his challenge in the final furlong. He was unable to recover from the second one, but is almost certainly a sprinter on the up who needs keeping on side - he has the Horse In Focus Flag.
His current mark of 95 isn't beyond him and the switch to Newcastle's straight track should suit his run style better.

Dartrey didn't offer much in three qualifying runs last year, but he's proved a revelation following a gelding operation and entering handicaps of late, rattling off a quick-fire hat-trick at Southwell this month.
He proved an opening mark of 56 all wrong when bolting up over six furlongs on New Year's Day, landing sustained support in the process, and he has had little problem defying a penalty and double penalty the last twice.
Dartrey is being kept busy, this being his fourth run in just over two weeks, but he has clearly entered handicaps from a ridiculously low mark, and judged by his latest success, he's just the type to stay ahead of the handicapper for a little while longer yet - he is another who has the Horse In Focus Flag.
