Sandown, 14.55 - Back Grey Tamam each-way @ 12/113.00

Aperoll, third in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, and runaway Newbury scorer Bayside View form a formidable pair of contenders for this Listed event.

The former ran a blinder from the front at the royal meeting last month on just her second start and clearly looks the one to beat, albeit she may well face some competition for the lead from the exuberant Bayside View who did pretty much everything wrong on her second start in a Newbury novice but still ran out a five length scorer.

Both look to have high ceilings, but with War Banner, who made all to score on her Newmarket debut, also in the race there is a chance of a lively early gallop.

With that in mind, I'm happy to take a chance with the maiden Grey Tamam who cost a not insignificant 140,000euros as a breeze-up purchase back in May and looks a value play to repay some of that purchase price here.

The Churchill filly overcame a sluggish start on debut at Nottingham to finish off well in a six-furlong maiden won by Ash Tree, herself a 240,000gns yearling, and the runner-up, Nicely, has since franked the form by scoring by a wide margin at Hamilton.

Grey Tamam may still display signs of experience today, but she is bred to relish the step upto seven furlongs and could well outrun her double figure quotes.

Southwell, 16.53 - Back Timely Affair @ 4/15.00

A return to Southwell can see Timely Affair record a timely victory in this winnable handicap.

The William Knight-trained gelding drops back to seven furlongs here, but is versatile trip wise and looked like he was going to record his second career win over this course and distance in April but for finding Shades Of May marginally too tough in the final furlong.

The selection didn't have to wait long to gain compensation, reacing positively to the application of cheekpieces to land a Class 6 handicap at the all-weather venue 18 days later with rider Oisin Murphy in no mood to be denied.

That victory took the son of Time Test's track stats to 21521 and two solid placed efforts on turf should have set him up nicely as he bids to record a third career run with the talented Jack Nicholls booked.

Nicholls has already partnered 59 winners in his fledgling career and it looks a smart move from connections to snap up the talented apprentice to tackle riders who may not be quite so experienced.
