Newmarket, 13.50 - Back Evanesco @ 7/18.00

Former trainer Mark Johnston possessed a formidable strike rate in the valuable handicaps at this meeting back in the day and son Charlie appears intent on upholding the family tradition.

The Yorkshire handler despatches Evanesco from his Middleham base for this event which he won three years ago with Killybegs Warrior and the improving son of Too Darn Hot boasts bright prospects of emmulating the achievements of Zabeel Champion, Communique and Ode To Evening in the last decade by capturing this prize for his stable.

The selection ran a blinder in a strong renewal of the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot last time where he attempted to make just about all of the running in one of the season's hottest handicaps of its type.

It was probably no great surprise that those exertions told in the straight, but this six-runner affair could prove a different assignment altogether and we saw how dangerous he was at Newmarket when allowed to dominate from the front.

At 7/18.00 with the Sportsbook, Evanesco represents a fair play and a small in-running lay on the Exchange at short odds to cover the stake might also be a prudent move.

Newmarket, 16.45 - Back Tatterstall each-way @ 7/18.00

The Hamilton sprint which featured Tatterstall last time has already begun to work out nicely and the selection was arguably a little unfortunate not to win that day.

The Bungle Inthejungle gelding went hammer and tongs from the front with a number of his rivals and fought all of them off only to have his pocket picked close home by the more patiently ridden Gangsta Man.

A couple of those well beaten have already scored since to endorse the form and Tatterstall may find today's track a little more forgiving.

York, 17.05 - Back Eternal Sunshine @ 4/15.00

We are approaching the point of the season when Eternal Sunshine began to thrive 12 months ago and her fine recent effort at Doncaster suggests her return to the winner's enclosure may be imminent.

Her performance on fast ground on Town Moor was far removed from one or two subdued efforts previously where she was dropping to a competitive mark and, but for a rival who enjoyed a nice solo on the far rail at Donny, she may well have been returning to York as a winner.

That outing should have teed her up nicely for this event and, although the layers have taken few chances with her price, 4/15.00 on the Sportsbook looks a fair reflection of her chance.
