Following some terrific fare in Ireland over the weekend, it is very much back to the mundane on Wednesday where the only selection on a quiet day runs in the concluding apprentice handicap at Newcastle.

The fact the sole pick comes in such an event probably speaks volumes, but I do think there is a race in Sea Legend over the mile at Gosforth Park and a repeat of the six-year-old's performance behind winning machine Aisling Oscar last time out may be sufficient to see the selection record a second career victory.

I like the fact trainer Jim Goldie has targeted a race where Lauren Young can partner the gelding as she has been on board for four of Sea Legend's all-weather starts, finishing a creditable second on the son of Sea The Stars back in November at this venue.

His latest run when beaten a shade more than a length a fortnight ago was a significant upturn on recent efforts and Sea Legend could be poised to strike in this company.
