It is fair to say the experiment of running Storming George in a Grade 1 at Aintree on Boxing Day didn't pan out as connections would have hoped.
A 73-length defeat at the hands of Idaho Sun was too bad to be true especially as the six-year-old had appeared capable of holding his own in Graded company previously.
The son of Order Of St George was reported to have hung right-handed on Merseyside and it was clearly not his running, but the silver lining was he was dropped to a mark of 125 (from 127) which seems generous given his performance was clearly not of the horse that hacked up over two miles on Town Moor last November.
The selection returns to the scene of that display here and, given he is a half-brother to 2m4f-2m6f winner Nickelforce and his mother is related to Pardubicka winner Registrana, this step up in trip should hold no concerns.
One other point aside from the tip, this is supposed to be a 0-140 handicap hurdle, but because the prize money is a paltry £5.650 to the winner, it has drawn only six runners with Storming George the top-rated runner on a rating of 125.
It simply isn't good enough.

With a record over a mile plus of 0-30, perhaps it wasn't surprising that King Of York was narrowly beaten at eight furlongs by Frostmagic.
In fairness to the Kingman gelding, the margin of defeat was only a neck so it would be foolish to say that he will never win at a mile, especially as the ratings gurus calculated the performance as his best since March 2024.
However, there is little doubting that the selection's stats are much better over today's course and distance over which Kieran O'Neill has ridden him twice producing a victory at 11/2 and a head defeat when an 11/1 chance.
A quick return to the track should be no issue for the seven-year-old either as he won following a six-day absence a couple of years ago so takes his racing well.
