Kempton, 13.10 - Back Fasol @ 4/15.00

A smooth winner at Musselburgh on New Year's Day, Fasol arguably went back to the well a little too quickly when taking in a competitive Kempton handicap just nine days later.

Considering the prominently-ridden seven-year-old was left tight for room on the home turn and didn't jump two out particularly fluently, he still ran a fine race granted that those who filled the first two spots home ridden chilly.

Third-home A Pai De Nom has since won with authority at Newbury on his next start to give the form further ballast and a six-week break could be the pause that refreshes Fasol.

Chepstow, 14.55 - Back King Of The Lake @ 7/18.00

Betting in Pertemps qualifiers can prove a hazardous exercise, but without an entry at Cheltenham in three weeks time, this race could prove King Of The Lake's 'final'.

A good winner of a similar handicap at this venue over the Christmas period, Jeremy Scott's eight-year-old has struck up an excellent understanding with Chad Bament in the last 12 months and it was the talented conditional which steered the gelding to a rapid hat-trick last spring.

The duo were in cahoots again last time at Kempton, competing in a strong renewal of the Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle won by the well-handicapped Iberico Lord, where Jeremy Scott's gelding again ran well before crashing out at the last hurdle when vying for a top five finish.

Hopefully that fall hasn't left any long-lasting issues for King Of The Lake who should relish the return to a track where he has already proved his effectiveness.

Kempton, 16.05 - Back Bad @ 5/23.50

Bad puts his unbeaten course record on the line as he bids to land this handicap for the second successive season.

Following some bad (please excuse the pun) press in the early stages of his career, the selection has displayed a slightly different side to his character this term, albeit his mercurial nature was again on display at Ascot on his latest start.

Never travelling at any stage for a large percentage of last month's event won by Vincenzo, the grey son of Morandi consented to run on late to snatch second under a determined Ben Jones, in doing so recording a performance which many handicappers adjudged on a par with his best.

Bad returns to his favoured stomping ground today, looking to extend his Kempton winning sequence to four and he could be tough to resist if in the mood.

Call the good Dr at the double!

It is the fifth weekend of Betfair's terrific "Bet £10 Get £10 on racing multiples" promotion so I'm going to have a double focusing on a couple of the day's lesser races.

Trainer Evan Williams landed a sizeable punt at Huntingdon on Thursday and I wonder if the shrewd Welsh handler has geared the campaign of Dr T J Eckleburg (Chepstow, 15.40) around a repeat tilt at this 0-150 handicap chase. The eight-year-old races off 120 here having won last year's renewal from a perch of 125 and there were definitely signs of an upturn in form at Sandown last time.

The first leg of the double is Precious Man (Kempton, 13:45) who might just have a little too much latent speed for the creditable One Horse Town in the Adonis Hurdle.
